Sehr ruhig und auch einsam gelegen. Sehr gut zum Abschalten und entspannen. Benötigt aber ein Fahrzeug. Wirklich sehr liebe und nette Gastgeber

Idyllically situated in a nature reserve Loch Gruinart House is a perfect place for a relaxed, calm stay on Islay. The owners are super friendly and provide lots of helpful tips.

Very pleasant stay. Comfy room, friendly non intrusive owners, and set in a scenic and peaceful location. No reason I won't book the B&B again if I'm on Islay.

Oh, this is a lovely place--would that all B&B's were so quaintly situated, in an arboreal oasis amidst broad vistas, with friendly animals in and around the house, and dotting the surrounding fields; and such warm, respectful and attentive hosts! Jack and Catherine will set you up and let you be--they've got things to do and so have you: all that delicious whisky out there isn't going to taste itself! Start out with some rich, fresh homemade bread (a different recipe each day) at your 'continental breakfast', and wind up in warm, cozy bed each night, well-insulated from Islay's wind and rain. Can't recommend enough. (wayfinding tip: search Loch Gruinart House, if you're GPSing. The UK postcode method, of which I'd only recently learned, sends you to a distant neighbor's farm house. I gather, maybe, not all rural homes have discreet postcodes, like they seem to in cities?)

Jack and Catherine and Nella were lovely. The location is prime for visiting distilleries on Islay. An easy drive up from Port Ellen. The room was spacious and quiet. Breakfast was full of options and both mornings had delicious fresh baked bread. Really couldn't ask for anything more.

If you're looking for 2 gracious hosts in the most magical place I've ever been, stay here! The breakfasts in the morning were perfect for me and the bread was out of this world. You definitely need a vehicle to stay here. They have a few animals, including chickens and a very sweet yellow lab, who you don't HAVE to interact with, but he's a really good dog. I loved this place, my husband and I were really sad to go. If/when we return to Islay, we'll be sure to try to stay here again.

Arriving by ferry on Islay for the first time last March was magical. Arriving at The Loch Gruinart House was like coming home. We were instantly comfortable and relaxed. Catherine was there to greet us with a smile and to get us oriented. The house is spotlessly clean, the bed is comfortable, and the common area is wonderful place to relax with other guests and have a chat or enjoy a dram or two. Breakfast set us up nicely for the day. Catherine made fresh bread daily that my wife still goes on about. We loved walking in the garden amongst the chickens. Jack was helpful with our plans during our few days on Islay. Finn, the resident lab, appeared occasionally for pat on the head and a “good dog”.You’re in the countryside here, but close to small towns, beaches, hikes, distilleries. It’s really tough to beat. The views across the Gruinart flats to Loch Gruinart are beautiful and the light changes them throughout the day, really something to behold. What a wonderful, homey place. We were there just long enough to wet our appetite for a return to Islay; so we’ve booked a week for fall 2019 and can’t wait to return.July, 2020 update:Our second review for Gruinart House is long overdue. This time we visited for a full week fall of 2019 and stayed in the self catering apartment attached to the B&B. We’ve travelled to pretty much all parts of Scotland and Islay is our favourite place; and Gruinart House is our favourite place on Islay. It’s absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The apartment was spotless and well equipped for a week stay...everything we needed. It’s perfect for 2 people. Jack and Catherine are so kind and helpful and are thoughtful/fun hosts. They respect your privacy but are there for you if you need them. The property is fun to walk. The Bramble Berries were in season and we were able to pick a pail along the road and enjoy them with ice cream...yum! Islay Oysters is a couple minutes away and we enjoyed some while there this time. I could go on and on about Gruinart House, but know that you will be hard pressed to find a nicer place to stay or nicer hosts. We hope to return.

Jack & Catherine were the perfect hosts for our stay on Islay and when our ferry back to the Mainland was cancelled they were extremely helpful. Our room and views were great and the breakfast was perfect for our need and Jacks homemade bread was certainly a winner. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
