I’m so grateful to Shakeel at Disk Doctors for his help this year.At the end of June, I corrupted an external hard drive by improper ejection, when I confused its cable with a cable for a USB fan that had also been connected to my MacBook. I’m an, as of yet, amateur, music producer and music video maker, and this hard drive contained many projects into which I’d devoted hours of work, projects upon which my hopes of supporting myself financially in the future rely.When I first took the drive to the Mansion House office of Disk Doctors, Shakeel assured me that diagnosis would likely be possible on site, without the need to ship the drive to a laboratory elsewhere. Other data recovery companies I'd contacted prior to Disk Doctors had told me that they always need to post hard drives to laboratories based outside of London, but this was something I'd worried about doing, due to the risk of losing my hard drive in the post.I was very lucky to go with Disk Doctors for other reasons. Over the next few weeks, I suffered from a series of additional hard drive failures, both due to my own mistakes, and a suspected glitch in the ancient operating system my MacBook currently runs on.In total, Shakeel ended up performing four separate data recoveries on these drives, but he only charged me for the first data recovery.From start to finish, my data recovery journey with Shakeel spanned over two months, mostly because of anxiety that I currently suffer from, that affects my confidence communicating by email, leading me to instead rely upon being able to pop into Shakeel’s Mansion House office to ask questions, sign forms, check on progress, and collect drives. I also found checking in on the progress of the data recovery very anxiety inducing in and of itself, the files meaning so much to me, that I would delay on checking in on the drives, for fear of something not having gone to plan in efforts to restore them.I'm so grateful that Shakeel showed patience and understanding with my communication issues. I have no idea how I would’ve been able to see through the data recovery with another company, given how difficult communication can be for me these days. Knowing that Shakeel was contactable by phone, and that he usually kept the same hours at his Mansion House office, and that he was usually happy to see me without an appointment, made completing the data recovery process possible.Throughout the process, Shakeel provided advice on how to back up my data in the future, even though one could argue that doing so would be against his interests from a business perspective, when Disk Doctors makes its income by recovering data. The fact that Shakeel showed so much patience, that he didn’t charge me as much as he could have, and that he advised me about methods of better protecting my data in the future, showed me that he's not just about making money, but that he’s a rare example of a business person who genuinely wants to help his customers.Many things went wrong for me this year, but Shakeel’s help was one of the few things that went right, and in such an important area of my life. I am forever grateful to Shakeel for the time and effort he put into helping me, and I hope that one day I'll be able to complete and share music projects that will make him feel proud for his part in saving them!
