Chappel Cemetery
Around 1900 a decision was made to replace the frequently flooded graveyard around St Barnabas Church with a dry cemetery on higher ground.Today the cemetery on Chappel Hill with around 100 souls is a nature paradise, ideal for solitary contemplation. Enclosed by hedges and trees, stately yew trees lead from the gate to a war memorial. Elsewhere it is overgrown with sycamore trees. There is no water supply, no waste disposal. There is nowhere close to park and yet access along a narrow busy road is dangerous and unsuitable for pedestrians. It is there for those with personal interests. Not for tourists.
