Fabulous day. The experience of flying in a glider is so different from commercial flying. You're going slower so you can enjoy the views and it's much quieter. Such a feeling of freedom! All of the people in the club were very welcoming and explained everything well, especially my instructor, Owen. Thanks Owen. All in all a great way to spend the day.

If you have ever wondered about learning to fly you might want to consider joining Southdown Gliding Club as a full member – I did so before my first visit and was not disappointed.I have no previous flying experience and have been a member of the club for two months during which 16 flights under instruction have been completed while also working in a busy job.The journey towards flying a glider yourself is both fascinating and enjoyable at Southdown Gliding Club. I have already had a go at many aspects of flying and it’s hugely absorbing.There is also a huge benefit to joining this volunteer club for the following reasons:1. A great atmosphere as everyone is there because they love flying2. Being outside and flying in one of the most beautiful places in England3. A tremendous depth of experience in instruction4. Great facilities including 3 tug aircraft to get you in the air5. Very reasonable rates which makes learning to fly more accessible (and you don’t pay anything for instruction)6. Flexible time options including weekends, weekdays and evenings7. A very strong safety cultureThoroughly recommended
