We were greeted kindly by the waitress upon arrival but I have to say, we found that to be overall a really poor food experience. We eat out a lot, and I've worked in food & hospitality for 10+ years. The bill set us back nearly £100 for very average food...the vibe of the room you eat in is very odd...pretty much silent in there. Zero atmosphere. The food, I can see they've tried with the ingredients...some of it seemed locally sourced etc. But the way it was cooked and presented was really disappointing and bland. If you want an experience of travelling back in time (quite literally) with the strange food and the odd vibe, then give it a go. But this is not a place for anyone under the age of 50, it is really traditional but not in a great way. It was way too expensive for what it was and it wasn't a pleasant, relaxed place to be.Sorry for the poor review, its rare we have a disappointing experience. But this was one of them.

Tucked away on the Herefordshire, Adergavenny boarder is this lovely restaurant, were you can get to sample wonderful local food to a very high standard. We had the taster menu, seven courses of well executed food with an autumnal theme to them all. The service was excellent, nothing to much trouble. There was a good selection of wine, however I do like to see some local ones if possible, Radlow Hundred we stayed over night accommodation good, it is help yourself Breakfast but plenty of chose, not cooked, we had to be out by 9.30am, but it is family run so I can appreciate all hands to the pump. Over all I will be going back as I do love good food.

Visited recently for a birthday meal for my wife. I was particularly attracted to their attitude towards making children a meal they will like as it's often difficult to go for a nice meal and find something that the kids will also enjoy. From the moment of arrival, Kate gave us a warm welcome at the door and made us feel very much at home. The location is quite a secluded old building, with a clean modern decor. The food was outstanding. We ordered the Haddock and Gnocchi as well as Risotto for starters and then the steak and a trio of boar for mains. Everything was cooked perfectly and to a very high standard, with melt in the mouth meat. The children had chicken goujons with mash and vegetable which was presented very nicely and they said it was the next lunch they have ever had!I'd highly recommend a visit here and we will certainly return again. You certainly won't be disappointed.

Even though we had to be seated outside I was a bit apprehensive because I hate being cold. The weather held off. The sun was shining. I took a blanket in case.We were welcomed by Kate and shown to the table. Kate provided is with hot water bottles for our laps. It made it. The food was outstanding as always. They always pull that extra special thing out of the bag.

1861 is a great restaurant. It's in a peaceful countryside location within easy reach of Monmouth and Abergavenny. It is family run so really friendly and there is a great attention to detail that you don't get elsewhere. The food and service is amazing, literally can't fault anything. It's for a higher-end budget but absolutely worth the extra! It's really Covid secure which puts everyone at ease and is genuinely one of the best restaurants in this part of Wales.

Had a lovely family Sunday lunch here. Food was good but the biggest positive was the amazing service. They took a lot of effort to take any and all dietary requirements into account and also to cater for young children. We had a combination of the roast and alacarte menu - generally everyone enjoyed their food! We also received lots of little palate cleansers in between all the food. Portions were also very generous :).
