St Nicholas Church, New Romney
A small church that had a major change in 1287, when on one day it was on the coast, and part of the port of Romney, almost overnight a devastating storm ripped along the coast , Romney was no longer a port and the church found itself a good mile inland, as a result of the sand and shingle moved by the power of the winds and waves. The course of the River Rother, that ran into the sea at Romney, changed course, and from then ran out at Rye, a few miles away.Evidence can be seen ,the pillars in the church are stained by the flood water, and entrance to the church is down steps, showing extent of the detritus build up

Lovely church, nice alter, very large amount of pews. Lots of historic information available. You can even see the water stains on the pillars inside the church, where the water came up to in the great storm, before the River Rother changed course and now comes out at Rye. As New Romney was once a fishing port. You can even see the rings on the other side of the wall in the churchyard where they used to tie the fishing boats up. You can even go up the steps to the church tower on certain occasions when it is open. Great church.

This bell tower is obviously loved. Well maintained and hospitable host. Great sounding bells.

Typical Romney Marsh Church, all are rather in similar on some ways but with individuality. Be careful you don't get looked in, though help is close at hand and fast from a very pleasant and helpful lady.

Beautiful 11th Century church located in the middle of town. Fortunate to be in town during the New Romney Fayre which has the church and tower open to the public

Lovely little church in picturesque surroundings. Good sized pay and display car park nearby (High Street is free parking but spaces are limited). Adjacent memorial area also worth a visit
