Abacus Clock Repair Workshop

Peter repaired my longcase clock which had fallen down the stairs and had fairly serious damage to the mechanism. He was very friendly and explained everything that he found and how he repaired the damage. Peter was very knowledgeable and a master at his profession. He even did a house visit to get the clock going correctly as I couldn't set it up properly once we got it back. We felt the cost was very reasonable for the amount of work done to the high standard. Would definitely use him again for any future clock problems. Highly recommended.

Took my art deco clock into Peter’s as a last resort as 3 other horologists said it was unrepairable.After 3 weeks I got the call saying it had not only been repaired but had been cleaned and was in full working order!This meant the world to me as my grandfather left it to me as I was always fascinated by it as a child.Cannot recommend Abacus Clocks any further other than all my family and friends use them and will be using them no matter what!

I have had a wall clock, carriage clock and also a bulk head clock overhauled by Abacus over the last 18 mths. I have been extremely pleased with the pricing and standard of the work.The after care service has also been really pleasing. The wall clock had a few issues after the initial refurbishment however there was a no quibble approach to getting it to run perfectly.The nature of some of these older clocks means repairs can take time.The team are interested in what they do and happy to talk to you to explain how the different mechanisms work.I would definitely recommend Abacus

My dial clock stopped working after many years reliable service. Being relatively new to the area I made a few enquiries to get it fixed. Phoned Peter who gave me an indicative price range and timescale to service/fix it. I took it to his shop and during the two months it was in his possession, we kept in touch regarding its progress. He was happy to take my calls and he would phone me. He found the problem and rectified it. The cost was within the price range quoted and the clock is ticking away again on my wall. Very pleased. As an aside a local competitor told me that there was an 18 month waiting list even before my clock could be inspected. I certainly would not want to be without my clock for that length of time, so 'thank you', Peter for your swift service.

I recently took a repeating carriage clock in for repair. It was the first time I had ever been to Abacus Clockshop.Sadly the clock had so many problems that the amount required to fix it really wasn't worth it.Obviously the guy(Peter I think) had spent time assessing the many problems and trying to get it going and yet he didn't charge me anything at all.Great service would thoroughly recommend Abacus to anyone.

I took my short case 1920s English wall clock to Peter for service before lockdown, it was done quickly at a competitive price. It started to play up again through my own fault of not setting it up properly on the wall, I took it back to him to check and he explained what I’d done wrong. His advice was invaluable and he didn’t even charge me for checking it again and keeping it to make sure all was well with the clock. It’s very refreshing to find a business these days with old fashioned values and customer service. I would highly recommend.

I recently took my father's old clock to Abacus Clocks to be repaired and serviced. They did a fantastic job. The owner Pete was particularly helpful and knowledgeable of his craft. I will definitely be ve going back there again, it's nice to see an old trade being kept alive. If you need to buy a clock or have one repaired, this is the place to go.

I inherited an 85 year old grandfather clock that had not been serviced since 1976. Peter gave me a lot of helpful advice beforehand about transporting the clock from its previous home and was extremely helpful and informative when I brought the mechanism to his shop for overhaul. He pointed out some parts that were badly worn and said the clock might carry on working for years more or fail in a few months. He offered either a simple service or a full overhaul, to include rebushing where required, with a 12 month guarantee, and gave estimates for each. He very candidly warned me that the cost of the overhaul was probably more than the clock would fetch if sold. The clock holds a lot of memories for me so I was happy to choose an overhaul and was told it would take a month to 6 weeks. I’m delighted to say that six weeks later the clock is reunited with its case and working perfectly. I had a panic when I was re-attaching the weights but a quick—and very helpful—phone call to the shop sorted me out.There was an initial set up problem (which would not have been easily apparent while the mechanism was out of the case) that meant the hour strikes were not always incrementing properly. I suggesting bringing the mechanism back to the shop but Peter offered to come to my house to sort the problem out there. Which he did the following day, so I have now had the benefit of seeing it in operation without the face in place and realising how complex these mechanisms are.I am very pleased with the work done and the price and would certainly recommend him.

I have recently had my Art deco longcase repaired by Peter. He did a first class job at a reasonable cost and a very reasonable length of time. having taken the clock in IMMEDIATELY after my initial discussion (4 weeks, including over Christmas.) Unlike others who I believe have a years waiting list.Tomorrow I shall be taking in a longcase belonging to my 'significant other' and then my Carriage clock.I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I highly recommend Abacus. Peter took the trouble to suggest solutions for the updating of a clock very precious to us. The work was accomplished in very quick time at a reasonable price. Both Peter and his colleague were knowledgeable and friendly.
