My husband and I moved to Chelmsford 15 years ago, but it’s very difficult getting kosher meat and we have to rely on delivery sources but the choices are minimal. So we decided to drive to Barkingside to stock up for a few weeks. We were very impressed with quality and prices and the staff were friendly. I’m now looking forward to a lovely bowl of hot chicken soup! Sharon Belnikoff

Completely agree with Ian’s review below. We had a very bad case of food poisoning a few years back and were very ill due to the chicken we bought from the store. Independent medical tests confirmed as such. The poultry was not fit for consumption. They were very aggressive and rude about it. They lack professionalism and integrity. There is no care whatsoever from a food and safety perspective.

This eaterysituated in Barkingside High Street is well worth a visit. We had, sadly take away only at present, four filled bagels. They were absolutely delicious, the bagel buns baked to perfection and there is an extensive list of fillings. We had smoked salmon and cream cheese which was mouth watering and made while you wait so really fresh and very well priced. This was our first visit but will certainly make this a regular occurrence and look forward to being able to eat there and trying out their extensive range of hot drinks . If you're in the area give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Really nice staff they gave me a super discount (£10 off) on some lovely salt beef, gotta get there early on the Jewish holiday though as they don't hang around, but all-round old skool quality service 10/10.

The manager at this shop should be utterly ashamed of himself. He treated an 83 year old customer appallingly when she politely went to inform him that she had been violently ill and needed to call an ambulance after eating something she had bought there. She had requested to have the conversation in private, just to make him aware of what had happened to her, but he refused. He became abusive, raised his voice and was very rude to her in front of other customers in the shop This caused a huge amount of extra stress to someone who had already suffered enough. Any owner of an establishment selling food needs to listen to and investigate issues to do with claim about food standards. Furthermore this is no way to treat any customer, let alone and elderly one. It is totally unacceptable and the matter will be taken further with the authorities. Don't spend your money here making this person richer.

My dad picked me up some sliced roast turkey today. It had the aroma of a wet dog, was so dry that it had the texture of cardboard, and what little taste it had was unpleasant... And for this pleasure they charge more than they do for a roast chicken. They should be embarrassed to sell this.Today (26th Jan) update. My mum went in to get me a steak to eat tomorrow. Got it home.. Best before 20th and use by date of today. You have to wonder if they know how to run a shop.

Nice and clean but meat was of poorer quality than expected. Will make the trip to North London in future.

The Jewish community in Redbridge is diminishing; despite there being three Jewish schools within walking distance, local Synagogues and Jewish business's are closing. This leaves La Boucherie as one of only two Kosher butchers in the area (the other being Goldberg's - but getting the staff to pay attention to you is not easy!)La Boucherie always has a good selection of Kosher goods - please remember that that Kosher labelling costs a LOT. Expect canned and bottled items to be 20-50% more expensive than items that are not specifically marked as Kosher (although many large brands mark as Kosher as a matter of course).Obviously Kosher meat is hideously expensive compared to non-Kosher meat. Due to butchery and slaughter rules, wastage is high which means that beef is terrifyingly pricey (even chicken carcasses have value - non Kosher butchers will generally discard these but Kosher butchers will package then up for sale for making chicken soup).La Boucherie understand this and there are always large family packs available - these are generally three of the same item for (roughly) the price of two-and-a-half of the item. There's further bargains to be had with the big freezer packs or sausages, burgers and schnitzel.I must heartily recommend their pies. The big family pies are about £20 but are amazing value. They are pretty much solid meat and will feed all but the most hungry of families with leftovers.
