For a Friday lunchtime I expected there to be more customers but we were 2 of 4 people there. Not surprising really as the prices were quite high. Before the pub's recent refurbishment the atmosphere was better and prices were much lower, even allowing for inflation. Give you some ideas we paid best part of £12 for 1 pint of bitter, half of cider and 2 packets of crisps.

Hidden away in a beautiful corner of the south downs, the white lion is a wonderful oldy worldly pub with great food and great service.Excellent rare roast beef, I would heartily recommend it. Mine was fantastic and I really enjoyed it (I believe that it is only served on a Sunday though)The pub itself is very old, well decorated and quite interesting inside. The staff were all pleasant, friendly and helpful during our visit.Booking is advisable in case it's busy.

Absolutely rate the setting and staff, couldn’t fault; however was disappointed with the food, both starters and mains were below average… not great… fed most to our dogs.Staff incredible and will still come for drinks and French fries.

Found this place by accident during a road journey. A traditional pub that is now essentially a restaurant although it does retain a bar in one of the three room, so if you just fancy a beer that's possible too. Food is clearly restaurant quality and a long way away from traditional 'pub-grub' and is reflected in the prices! Having said that, my wife and I we very satisfied with our lunch here.

Definitely not a great place if you can't eat meat and/or dairy. They clearly do not care about this fact. You can feel the eye roll a mile away and the snappy attitude that you receive when you have to ask a few questions because they don't make it clear. They actually do not have a veggie option (they only have one that can be created veggie - a mushroom risotto. How creative... and im not convinced it isn't made with chicken stock which obviously defeats the object). Very disappointing. I was so hopeful. If you eat meat I'm sure you'll have a great time and be accommodated. If you don't... you. Will. Feel. The. Chill. !!!

Amazing friendly and helpful staff. Managed to get in for a Sunday lunch at quite short notice, we were very lucky! The food was excellent, nice medium rare beef with large Yorkshire pudding and plenty of sides. Great beer garden and very old, atmospheric building.

Limited evening menu (no chicken option) unwilling / unable to substitute French fries for new potatoes only available as an extra when you are already £22.00 for salmon with potatoes and purple sprouting is beyond us. Husband had pie and mash and veg which was very tasty but we couldn’t get any gravy so meal was very dry.Sadly a disappointing evening especially at the higher prices for food and drink probably won’t visit again any time soon.

Only popped in for a beer after a walk with our dog. Holidaying in lovely barn up the road. The barman was welcoming but unfortunately the locals I assume created an atmosphere that made us feel unwelcome. I spoke to a dog on entry who was sniffing our dog. He was swiftly removed from our area. Then tried to navigate to garden apologised for having to disturb people seated who begrudgingly let us through. Then entered garden out towards a group of men who fell silent and seemed to huff at our being there. Needless to say left after drink and do not plan to return in our holiday time! Shame. Lovely looking pub.

The pubs open again! We missed it and it’s back better than ever. Great food and local traditional pub feel.
