The Paradise Induction
An amazing debut. I loved the style of writing and the the story kept me wanting to find out what happens next. The fact that it's based on author's own real-life experiences in what most of us would consider paradise-on-earth makes it a much more interesting read. I found myself emphathising with the protagonist on many occasions through the feelings of anger, incredulity, hope, dissapointment, despair. At points I had to put the book down and take a walk just to calm down and clear my thoughts. I will definitely be looking out for part two.

This book peels back the stereotypical thoughts of bliss and ease that comes to mind when thinking of the Caribbean. It openly exposes some of the absolute madness that actually goes on here, but is usually keep to the hushes of conversations and rumors. Really appreciate the honesty in which the book was written and am eagerly awaiting the next one.

I read the book with as open a mind as possible as I don’t read books often. There was a lot more to this than I could have imagined and I came into reading the book with great intrigue, not entirely knowing what direction the book was going to flow. The book starts by placing you straight into the action allowing the reader to really grasp a great understanding of the protagonist’s mind set and personality. This is much needed, as the book strives on making the reader really relate to all that the main character goes through. There is some great humour placed at the beginning which had me laughing and it is definitely needed, as there is a lot of hardship that follows. The hardship that the protagonist goes through really affected me personally, to an extent where I started to feel angry and annoyed at what was going on.I felt the book had a great flow to it. I read a chapter every night before bed only to find myself wanting to continue reading the next chapter. I truly was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen to the protagonist as I was taken on a journey through all the trials he faced.Overall, I felt the book was extremely well written and a very enjoyable read. It actually instilled a new enjoyment for reading that I’ve never really had. Finally, I just want to say that, having coincidentally just come back from the Caribbean after having read the book, it made me see the island I visited as well as the people working and living there in much different light than I would have otherwise done so.Sure the island was beautiful and the service was impeccable. But I sensed something much deeper than what people would otherwise see on the surface, that reading the Paradise induction enabled me to see, due to the depth established within the book. These Caribbean islands run largely on tourism to sustain their economy and there is a high rate ofunemployment throughout. Should an outsider come to one of these islands and take a job that a local could potentially do, you can bet your money that there would be a lot of resentment and hostility directed towards that outsider. In truth, the protagonist never had a chance to succeed on the islands the second he stepped out ofthe plane.…But, I’ll let you make your own opinion on that once you’ve read the Paradise Induction.

Highly recommend this book for a very different view on the stereotypical Caribbean lifestyle, from the perspective of a young expat. Brutally honest and completely engrossing, it delves into the inner turmoils we all face trying to survive in the modern world. Looking forward to the next instalment in the trilogy.

Just another day in Paradise....A brutally honest account of the other side of paradise, the things we don’t see on vacation. Beyond the frozen cocktails with umbrellas, the beautiful sunsets, and the lazy beach days..there is far darker side of life going on. Follow Christopher Charles as he navigates life in the Pharisee Islands as he learns things are not always as they seem...A great read!

Realistic view of the Caribbean expat life that we haven't heard of before. I felt lots of anger towards some awful characters and the worst part is that it is a true story as it is the author's testimony. Despite how difficult it can be to relate sometimes, we feel a lot of compassion for the narrator. This book is also a page turner and we always want to follow the main character in his adventures no matter how disastrous, hoping for the best yet to come. I can't wait to read more about his twists and turns in the next two parts.
