A very nice Toyota car dealership here in North Wales. We were assisted by salesperson Andy Bickerton with the potential purchase of a new Toyota Hybrid Yaris car. My friend went for a test drive and the explanation etc of everything was just excellent. Extremely helpful people wanted a rub strip for my 1986 MR2 , the staff phoned around for me. sadly they are not available anymore,

I spoke to a salesman at Llandudno Junction about a grey Aygo (CX21 NYR I think) that they had available. I asked if the car was in superb condition with no marks and was assured all their cars were like this but that he would check and confirm. I had a car to part exchange, and I agreed to pay a deposit to reserve the car, but no amount was mentioned, (Autotrader said reserve any car for £99). I said I would be down a couple of days later on the 4/8/23 and would confirm time of arrival when on route as I was coming down to Wales from home in Scotland to see the car. I heard nothing more.A deposit of £500 pounds was then taken from my bank account with no warning!On my way down I rang as promised to be told that the person who arranged my visit was on his day off, he had neglected to mention that when I first spoke to him. The person on the phone apologised and I arrived at the branch to view the car.On arrival a very helpful receptionist apologised again about the staff member being on his day off and the £500 deposit (apparently the website needs to be updated?) and tried to find someone to help me. After a short wait another member of staff came to assist me, he said he knew I was coming but had no idea I was bringing a car to part exchange?Then they could not find the car on the forecourt but after a short search the car appeared, and salesman went off to find some dealer plates. In the meantime, I gave the car a quick check to find multiple small marks on the drivers door so I decided I was not buying this car but wanted to drive it anyway. The marks on the door were very small but my initial conversation with the salesman about the external condition of the car had made clear what I was looking for.After a successful drive I confirmed I wasn’t buying the car and why and was advised that another member of staff would arrange my deposit refund promptly.By the following Monday 7/8/23 there was no sign of my refund, so I rang the dealer to chase this on my way back to Scotland. Spoke to the original staff member again who asked why I had not bought the car and said he would look and see if he would be able to do anything about the door and come back to me otherwise the refund would take 3 working days. Needless to say, I heard nothing more.On the Thursday I chased the refund, and somebody said they would chase it. Later that day I phoned again and spoke to the original salesman, and he said he would chase the refund again. At that point I said that I wanted to speak to the sales manager or the branch manager, the salesman then said that the refund would be processed that day and he would confirm it was done by the end of the day.The refund appeared in my account later the same day and I got an email confirming that the payment had been made.In summary, very poor communication, promises made not kept, no mention of a £500 deposit when Autotrader clearly said reserve any car for £99, and needing to threaten to speak to a manager to get my refund. Why can you take a deposit quickly but not refund it at the same speed?As a footnote to all this, I also rang another Toyota dealer in Blackpool on the way back to Scotland on the 7/8/23 about a grey Aygo they had for sale. An hour later I was test driving the car, which was waiting for me when I arrived, and I bought it with no hassle at all.
