Went here just for a cup of tea and cake. When we arrived waitresses acknowledged us standing waiting for table but didn’t come over till 10 plus minutes later. When we were sat down, we waited 20 minutes to be served, in which 2 of the waitresses were chatting and one was on her phone. 3 people were also served before us. I completely understand if they were busy but in this case it was blatant laziness. Finally left after 25 mins of waiting to which none of them acknowledged us.

We arrived in York a bit early and managed to pass the time with a breakfast. The two very young servers were attentive and eager to help, while the manager seemed a bit flustered. The breakfast itself was excellent, incredibly delicious. Our dogs were also warmly welcomed.

Stopped off for breakfast twice, there are a few of these dotted around town. The breakfast was lovely, piping hot and lovely tea. Didn't realise the place was so big but we were on ground floor. Lots of lovely staff so service was fab. Would definitely recommend for a breakfast stop.

Pretty decent service, atmosphere and ambiance a little hard to call as we sat outside. You are able to sit indoors however, who doesn’t like a little people watching?Coffee was pretty good, cake was excellent however the croissant was dry, small and overpriced. Such a pity ad everything else was spot on!

I went with my sister. We had scones. They sounded delicious. We were disappointed on the following points:1. Extremely small scones, very large plates.2. The fruit scone was pre jammed, I would have preferred to have a more interactive experience where I could spread my own.3. The cheddar scone had clearly been microwaved resulting in it being hotter than the sun and with a sponge like consistency.4. The accompaniments for the cheddar scone (though causing me a pang of jealousy due to their being separate and not pre applied) were in unattractive and non recyclable lidded plastic containers. A major letdown in these days of environmental awareness.5. The toilet was unpleasant and far too close to the eating area. When I went staff remained directly outside the door gassing. My sister believed this to be against hygiene regulations but I just found it somewhat disconcerting. Not to be entirely negative, the cheddar scone came with an attractive paper wrapped cuboid of butter. This was by far the best part of our underwhelming experience. The 2 tiny scones and 2 small teas was over 16 quid. We went to the Evil Eye lounge to get over the upset, 2 fantastic bloody Mary's for the same price. Spend wisely folks, we know where our bread (and scones) are buttered!!Thanks for reading, avoid Lucky Days, sup in the Evil Eye xx

Got conned coming in here. Terrible experience. Do not eat on the 3rd or 4th floor.Queued up for a while for what looked like a lovely place downstairs - warm, cosy, Christmas music playing, nice atmosphere. We were shown this where we queued but upstairs was disgusting. We got sat on the 4th (top floor). As soon as we got past the 2nd floor, it got dark, cold, damp, the music stopped playing, the service dwindled down to 1 or 2 people who seemed like temps and who were not interested in giving warm service. It was literally like going into a different restaurant to the one shown to you downstairs. I asked politely to be seated somewhere else but the group of waiting staff dismissed me rudely without any care and no offer of any good service or consideration whatsoever. I asked if they could let us know if another table came up downstairs but they did not (walked past several empty tables when we left too).To be fair, we should have left when we got sat down but you hope don't you that you're just being fussy or it'll get better. They must have a reason for charging people to eat here and letting them queue then putting them in the attic....Food was nice so its a shame. But we were sat in a dark, cold, damp room with no music, barely any service, our drinks were forgotten about (never received them and they were still on the bill when we went to pay). The decor was shocking (like an old travelodge, or the interior of a bus) and just so different to downstairs. We weren't once asked if we were OK or if we enjoyed the meal or our time there. So here I am writing a review instead. At one point we we were the only table left upstairs and someone who seemed like a senior staff member came in and started talking loudly about shift patterns across the room with another member of staff while we were sat there, as if we didn't exist. This whole time we had been polite and friendly by the way.Just really shameful to mislead customers putting all the pomp and frills at the front and then carting them off to the tip at the back and charging the same. The food did not make up for it. A classic example of greedy owners trying to use all available space to cram customers in, treat them poorly, con them out of their money and send them on their merry way knowing they can get away with it because it's in a busy city in a prime location with an endless supply of customers. The service probably wasn't great because the staff have no training or don't get paid enough to care. Poor business management on the whole. If I was the manager/owner I'd be so ashamed.

Great food/ menu choice. Wonderful staff. Dog friendly for 2 large white GSDs. Very busy everyday. Only 1 facility for customers use, which was well used.

Really quaint little cafe (thou after wandering York discovered there's several of them). The lunch definitely didn't seem worth the price but the free 3 salads expand on that. Definitely tasty and really well made. Something to go back to and try a few others.

Good location in the heart of York and friendly service with a smile. Lovely.I only had a coffee and a mid morning bacon buttie and didn't venture inside as table service is provided out on the square, which is where I sat. Weather was perfect which always helps!Coffee was good, a cappuccino, but the sandwich was a little lacking. Served in a thick cut bread with mushrooms and tomatoes, it tasted fine but the presentation was poor. Stuck on a white plate, cut in half and looking a little forlorn. There was no depth to the filling that felt lost in the thick bread. The process of eating starts with what you are presented with and this was a bit of a fail, I'm afraid.I would return as the location is great although I have noticed on other visits to York that it can get very busy. Service was good apart from being asked if I'd like a gratuity to be added to the bill when I paid by card! (Possible can of worms opened there but that was my feeling when asked).Good menu size and choice, prices seem okay for centre city eating and by and large a good place to try out.
