We stayed in one of the properties here 5 years ago and it was impressive enough to bring us back for the 5 hour drive, a second child and a dog in tow this time. The owners have invested significantly and its even more impressive now, with a converted barn restaurant called the bosk"

It is with some degree of reluctance that I write this review as I appreciate that it may make it more difficult to revisit in the future. Let me explain further. We hired 3 lodges this weekend to celebrate my 60 th birthday. All of my immediate family were in attendance and the truth is that the lodges were perfect. The attention to every detail is hugely impressive and without doubt the best accommodation I have ever stayed in. To put that into context I work all over the UK so spend roughly half the year staying in accommodation so my assessment is a huge compliment.The staff are fantastic especially Peter Snr and Peter Jnr. Consumate professional hosts.The fascilities are brilliant, and to top it of the food and service in the Bosk were exceptional.For purely selfish reasons I did not want to leave such a glowing review because it may make it more difficult for us to find a vacant date in the future but I believe that credit must be given where credit it is due and the proprietors deserve huge credit for developing such a wonderful facility. This place is absolutely amazing. Superb setting. Very peaceful. The cottages are well built, well laid out and exceptionally kitted out. The facilities are numerous: pool, spa, games room, play park, lake and on site" walking trails. It is close enough to Newcastle but feels very far away from the city when you rest there. Not far away from Alnwick and even closer to Wooler. Good place to take a family with small children."

Just back from a fantastic stay at Hemmel House. I booked for 4 adults and 4 children. Only a few minutes drive from the pool, gym and other facilities but we made good use of everything. The swimming pool is very popular but the booking system allows for fair booking/covid safe. Hemmel House itself is stunning. Beautifully decorated and to a really high spec, they've thought of everything. The space inside and outside was great for our children. The hot tub a great added extra and to top it off the location is absolutely stunning! We had a wonderful week away and couldn't recommend this property highly enough!

Absolutely fantastic weekend away celebrating a birthday, we stayed in the Comby Hills cottage and we were so impressed. It was much bigger and better than we thought it would be, the kitchen had everything you would need, furnished to really high standards and very comfortable and cosy.On site there was so much to do with our teenage daughters, pool and spa, games room, tennis court, golf and our daughters favourite the trampoline in the ground.We visited the Bosk and had delicious pizzas on the Friday night. Drove to The Running Fox for afternoon tea on the Saturday.Plenty walks around the area, we loved the walk around the lake.We loved our visits from the chickens on a morning as well.Definitely recommend a visit, worth every penny you will not be disappointed.

This is a lovely holiday location. The holiday homes are very luxurious! Everything you need. The owners have thought long and hard about how to setup the houses.There is WiFi Internet, usually when I go away the Internet is spotty, not here, it's satellite Internet and is fast! Super easy to log on and very rarely drops.The pool is fantastic, it's a very good size and has a nice deep end. Shower facilities are great. The is for want of a better word there is a brilliant little dryer that can dry trunks & towels in seconds.Spa and Sauna are also amazing, there is a gym with excellent equipment. Again the owners have put a lot of thought into this. The equipment is top end stuff, from weight racks to cross trainers.There is sky TV in every house, this also has access to the Sky sports channels and some of the movie channels. Great for evenings in with a nice fire and a good film.The grounds are lovely, plenty of wildlife about, rabbits, birds, horses, sheep and if you take a walk around the lake you can spot Deer.The games room for the children is also brilliant, Pool table, Air Hockey & Table football, along with toys for younger ones.On the whole this place is brilliant, everything is so well thought out, top notch accommodation in a stunning area within driving distance of some really nice areas & towns to visit.

Fabulous cottage wonderful every thing you need very quiet and peaceful granddaughters loved it super swimming pool and very nice food in restaurant will be back xx

This place is 5* self catering. All the little touched have been thought of. The facilities are brilliant with a pool, tennis court, a kids play area, a games room and the lake is lovely to walk around too.The kitchen cupboards and draws have those extra things that make this a special place to stay.The welcome pack is a wonderful touch.Oh and the beds are so comfy.

4 return visit in 5 years.. last year we said we would not be back but after looking at alternatives we rebooked to come back within a few weeks. It is that good compared to other with regards to quality, facilities and cost.Hired 2 cottages 6 and a 4birth next to one another and both were excellent. Well stocked kitchen equipment. Good decor etc. Quality as good as always.Kids loved the pool.kids facilities since last visits increasing slowly. Kids game room is good for teens as they have air hockey,table tennis and pool. Soft play area good for under 5. Small football pitch with new trampoline. Tennis courts.2nd year running we hired the bouncy castle for 4 years old birthday. Only able to set it up in the 6 birth cottage due to size of garden.Adults, I recommend going to pool and using steam room, sauna and gym after 7pm as it's less busy.The Bosk restaurant was very good quality food and was well sized portions still. Booking required.Only grumble is this year they have chickens running loose around cottages. Chicken house behind cottages in field.Chicken Poo is all over garden and you can't leave your back door open as they try and come in. First day they come in and poo'd on carpet by door before we realised.Have not been able to use garden or keep back door open .luckily this year it rained too much to use garden. But have made it a issue as the kids like to roam free in garden between our 2 cottages next to one another.Chickens have dominated the holiday.Don't think we will come back while these chickens are here.
