Tonge Cemetery
Tonge cemetery needs the council to do something about the condition of the cemetery when it rains. Bodies buried and lowered in coffins in to water.

It's a very peaceful place to go for a walk and the path is wide enough that during the current pandemic you can easily maintain safe social distancing.However, the Council who own it are somewhat neglectful in its maintenance. Himalayan Balsa is being allowed to overrun large areas and a small group of graves get flooded every time there's heavy or persistent rain - this is a drainage issue and nothing to do with the river Tonge (which is there excuse) because the graves closer to the river never flood.

Beautiful & well kept cemetery.Would like to thank Neil the groundsman at tonge cemetery. Takes pride in his work, is really helpful and very respectful. Lovely, caring man.

I officiated at an interment this morning and I have to say that the cemetery employee was so attentive and helpful in spite of the Covid difficulties and the appalling weather he was a joy to deal with - many many thanks - I'm so sorry that I didn't know his name - thanks again.

This is one of the largest cemetery in Bolton which is closest one to the town center.This is absolutely beautiful and great cemetery.Cemetery is owned and maintained by the Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council. Tonge Cemetery opened on December 31, 1856.
