Colinton Gardening Services - garden landscaping for Edinburgh

Colinton landscapers were easy to communicate with and friendly. They laid a new slab patio edged with granite, some turf and made 2 raised beds for us. They also made new fencing and a gate. We are very pleased with the finished result. There were setbacks with the initial fence materials and we had to start again with different rails and slats. This was resolved in a friendly way and it now looks great!

A much needed main-door flat “front bit” makeover to accommodate the imminent arrival of a puppy. Andy, Jamie and Eliot have done a fantastic job. They suggested the addition of a fence so we could keep pup area separate from some lovely sea breeze daisies we’d otherwise have to get rid of as they aren’t safe for dogs to eat. So we now have two separate areas - a puppy safe space and a space with a built-in seat to enjoy in the summerWork came in a bit under budget, which was a lovely surprise in the run-up to Christmas, and was finished to schedule and everything tidied up. We’re delighted with the outcome, as are our neighbours - we’ve had plenty of compliments to pass on to the company. To quote one of our neighbours, “it’s great to see proper craftsmanship”.

We used Andy and his team to do a recent big landscaping job in our garden. They gave great advice and were always very efficient, friendly and professional. They’re all skilled and passionate gardeners and the finished job looked excellent. We would happily recommend Andy and his team and we’ll be working with them again if we need any more gardening or landscaping work done.

We enjoyed co-operative working with this Company of landscape gardeners, and are very satisfied with the outcome. They are locally based, which we were keen to support. Our garden, front and back, was literally a muddy blank canvas and required a mini digger and skips to clear and shape. We had in mind some trees, scrubs, and plants we were keen to introduce. A huge advantage, prior this work, was the preparation of an exact location plan of the planting, this completed by one of the workers with 8 or so years' experience with the Royal Botanical Gardens. He made many constructive recommendations, and introduced us to a much wider potential planting outcome. He, and his participating manager, who kept us well informed about the budget, regularly consulted with us as the project developed. The only quibble was a small time hiccup with the major supplier of plants - but this was not the fault of Colinton Gardening Services. Overall, a great outcome.

I am delighted with the work Colinton Gardening Services did. From the beginning, Andy was empathic to what I was wanting, and helped me shape the ideas. Elliot and Molly did an amazing job turning a mud patch into a beautiful patio, with care and attention to detail. This was my first bit landscape design work I had enlisted, and they talked me through each day what they were going to be doing, we discussed the process & the decisions. I'll happily add some photos once my husband has finished building a new fence next to it!

This previously good company can no longer be relied on.Colinton Garden Services built fencing for us in Autumn 2021. We then asked them to replace paving in our patio. We accepted their estimate in October 2021 with work to start Winter of 2021/2. Time passed with no progress until June/July 2022 when they were ready to start.For the fencing project we’d paid 50% halfway with the rest on completion. For this project, however, Andy asked us to order and pay for the materials directly to the suppliers including a £400+ increase in costs due to the delayed start. He then required a £2500 upfront payment for labour. We felt uncomfortable with this and legal and consumer advice strongly warned us against going ahead. It would have meant us paying £4600 of a £6600 project in advance.We offered generous stage payments in an effort to keep things on track and meanwhile the start date came and went. Out of the blue, Andy announced he was going on ‘Gardening Leave’ for at least a week or longer. And that was it.Unfortunately I’d have to warn prospective customers, especially those of pensionable age like ourselves, to be wary of comparatively large sums being asked for before any work has been done.

We have been very pleased with the service provided by Colinton Gardening Services. Andy and his team were very knowledgeable and offered great ideas as to what we could do in terms of planting and maintenance for our shared garden space. Would recommend and use again. Thank you!

From first contacting Andy, he was helpful, friendly and professional. We wanted a wood fence to match our existing one and Andy turned up at the appointed time to talk it through, sending his estimate shortly afterwards. The work was high quality with the team spending time to get it right and they were respectful of our neighbour’s garden also. We have asked for further work to be carried out. Highly recommended.

I don’t usually write reviews but there are a lot of 5 stars here which don’t reflect my experience with this company. Whilst I am generally satisfied with the patio and path laid there are aspects of their service which should be highlighted.I first spoke to Andy in Feb / Mar 2021 about the work, was given a quote which I accepted and was told the work would be done in early April. Early April came and went so I emailed him and was told it would take place now in May. This date also came and went and no word again from Andy – emailed him again and was told it would now be early June. Contact before and during the period work is done are equally important - it shouldn’t be the customer who has to reach out for updates.Once the work starts, they work Tues – Fri, starting at 10am and clocking off by 3pm. So you need to be for the work to take far longer than a usual trade based company. With these work times, you would expect them to be organised and have all the materials they need for the day but this wasn’t the case. What was a relatively simple project took 4 weeks to complete which could have been done in half the time.At the end I was presented with a final bill which was over 10% higher than the quote yet there was no change in the scope of work. The only explanation given was that the cost of materials had increasedAmended on 26th NovIn response to your comment Andy – my review was based on my own personal experiences with the service CGS offer – they are not “grievances”. As mentioned before, I was satisfied with the patio and path that was built and in reflection of this, I’ve adjusted the star rating. My feedback was given to help future potential customers weigh up their options.

What a difference to our garden after the guys' diligence, care and experience revived our lame-looking back lawn and turned it into a sharp-looking new layout. They did a great job and it was a bonus to learn a few new horticultural things over a coffee
