The Cochrane Inn
Delicious food with prompt and attentive service particularly impressive as we hadn't booked and the restaurant was already busy. Lovely welcoming atmosphere for ourselves and our children. Really impressed.

I thought it was gonna be amazing from the reviews I read but it really wasn't. I was quite looking forward to the Sunday roast as I haven't had one in a while. I won't say it was terrible because that would be a lie, but it certainly wasn't up to the standard. The beef was good size and nicely cooked, however, the rest was pitiful. The only explanation I can come up with for the Yorkshire puddings we were served is that an apprentice made them and nobody checked before sending them out. Same goes for the vegetables and portions. Without kidding, we each had two tiny roast potatoes, tiny bits of carrot, swede and parsnip..it looked like a stew mix you get at most supermarkets. The carrots tasted off, but luckily my partner is not really all that fussy so he ate it all without betting an eyelid. As somebody with a substantial working experience in hospitality(no chains), I'd hesitate to truly rate this place. Considering that we've paid around £15 for the roast, it was way below its value especially knowing a Michelin star place charges £18-21 for their incomparably delicious roasts. There's always a hope that that it was just a bad day for them when we visited, so do give them a chance at least once. If I'm in the area again I won't dismiss going back, but I will be prepared to be disappointed again.

The restaurant is pleasant with a relaxed atmosphere. Staff were pleasant but service was a trifle slow and they forgot one of the drinks.Ordered mussels to start with, when they arrived they were tasty enough but about a third of them were not open. This would imply that they were not particularly fresh and that no-one is checking the food before it goes out, very dodgy where shellfish is concerned.Main course was well cooked but portions were a bit small given the price.A reasonable dining experience but the Cochrane Inn doesn't live up to the hype.

The Cochrane Inn
Absolutely terrible. Was seated at a table with what appeared to be garden chairs - on top of that - it was in between two doors so everyone was walking past and it was very uncomfortable. Took 40 minutes to get the starter which was pre-made and there was hardly anything on the plate. Then it took a further 40 minutes to get the main course which was slightly cold and absolutely drowned in seasoning. When asking for the bill it took a further 15 minutes to get a card machine. Was only spoken to once without having to ask staff for anything. Very poor service. Expensive place to eat for the service and the food. Very disappointed and I won't be returning.

Great wee restaurant, fantastic food and friendly staff sometimes let down by being over busy and service suffering a little. Highly recommended

I went to the Cochrane Inn last week for lunch with my Mum and Papa and we had a wonderful time. It was the first visit for me and my mum but my papa had been before and highly recommended it. We ordered our meal which arrived promptly and smelled delicious. The portion sizes were massive and tasted fantastic. I would recommend this place to anyone. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is lovely.
