St John's Northgate Methodist Church

This church has a very long and important history.At the back of the building is some Roman stonework recycled in about 900 by Athelstan, the first king of Great Britain.There is also a short hexagonal pillar of a typical Saxon design, almost certainly from his building.The church was frequented by some of the more influential citizens as witnessed by the monuments.It became central to the Methodist revival and both Wesley and Wheatfield preached here.

I was there for an event, not a service, so I don't know what the congregation or preachers are like, but it was a beautiful building with a warm atmosphere. The minister was pleasant and the few members I met were also very kind and welcoming.
