Beautiful shop which sells the most lovely plants, jewellery and plant accessories as well as doing a while host of creative workshops. I did their recent pottery one, and it was absolutely wonderful! I have zero previous experience and we were talked through every step whilst still being encouraged to add our own creative flair. It was a fun and relaxing environment and I went home feeling like I’d really learned something! I definitely can’t wait to come back and do another course.

I absolutely love this store! It has the most calming vibe and such beautiful plants and pots you just want to take all of them home with you! Beth and her partner are so so lovely and they did the most wonderful job repotting all my giant plants in my home! They were really easy to contact and fit into my schedule, they came with everything including pots and soil and even cleaned up after themselves! I thought their prices were really reasonable considering the amount of plants they repotted for me and the great service they provided. Highly recommend checking out Understory if you want to support a lovely hometown business here in Brighton and cannot recommend their home repotting services enough! I love recommending them to everyone I know whose plants need some TLC. My plants are absolutely thriving!!

Great place to find really special gifts, one of a kind items, beautiful plant accessories, and Beth will re-pot your existing house plants for you for a fair price, saved me making a huge mess at home. This is a little gem of a local business. We have now used several of their services and been delighted with the result each time. Beth is a mine of useful information about indoor plants and very generous with her time in giving a helping hand to anyone who is unsure. She also provides other services aside from selling healthy plants in the shop - she repots plants as they need it, and will even come to your home for a site visit to advise on your plants in situ (all for reasonable fees, in our opinion). The gifts including jewellery that are in stock are of good quality and range. We also really enjoyed the evening ceramic workshop that we did with Tom recently - an opportunity to make and decorate a plant pot of your own using a coiling technique, and when we went there was a very friendly group that with Tom's expert and relaxed leadership lent itself to a lovely evening. Understory is a warm and welcoming place which is always a delight to visit.

Understory is indoor plant heaven- we recently moved to Brighton & we’re thrilled to find Understory within walking distance. What makes Understory really distinctive is Beth, whose incredible knowledge about plant care and personal warmth have given us, as newbie plant-carers, the confidence and advice we needed to keep our plants alive & thriving. Beth does an amazing consultancy service that can be offset by plant purchases. We love the fact that Understory is also a creative and learning space for pottery and other activities, making it a hub for community. All the products are gorgeous, and my kids love to visit Understory and Beth as much as we do. If there is one place in Brighton to get your indoor plants, we highly recommend Understory.

I was so thrilled when this shop opened last June because I love big leafy and / or tropical plants. But this shop is so much more than just a plant shop, as it presents different ways of integrating plants into your home, through their displays and arrangements, and with a wide range of beautiful pots. And of course, it’s lovely to see a range of products from local artists, and to get to know more about them and their work.I moved back to Scotland last autumn, but I’m so pleased to see that the shop is doing so well - and the plant consultations sound like a brilliant service, I definitely need that for my flat up here!
