We were not able to go in the mill due to flooding but that didn't matter at all. The two guides were knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. They brought the mills and their long history to life. I'd now like to know even more so will be back again for sure.

Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage SiteAn informative and educational visit to the above proved to be a great day out learning about local history and the Strutts family. Great to visit as a kind of family tour of local mills, the history all ties in together nicely to form the bigger picture of the mills.

Enjoyed a guided tour of the world's first fire proof building. Unfortunately this piece of history will be closing down thanks to the council. I would recommend a visit asap it really is interesting and made informative by the guides. Hopefully all the movable artifacts and machinery will find a new home and carry on being displayed elsewhere. The walks and tours include inside and outside the mills, the river gardens, long row, nail shop and Joseph street. We spent an hour on the mill tour and a further hour browsing the artifacts and information. Drinks are available in the foyer along with souvenirs, books, information leaflets. Free car park. Admission is £5 which gives a year pass, and Derbyshire day out discounts.

Great value history tour for £5. The volunteer guide was informative and helpful. Most of the history is centred around the spinning machines and the basement architecture which supports the mill. It’s a shame you can’t glimpse a floor in the mill to gain a sense of scale. I studied A level Economic History so all my memories of spinning mechanisation came flooding back. I think the tour could be enhanced by more story telling through the life of individuals working at the mill to visualise a working day/week/life as a mill worker, or a gaffer, or a mother of a family etc. This can really bring a historic place to life. We very much enjoyed the dressing up opportunity.

We had a wonderful guided tour of this small museum which is based in a couple of rooms in the original mill plus the basement and water wheel pit. Really interesting but its in danger of closing as the local council have withdrawn funding and the buildings owners want to turn it all into offices. They need your support.

A fascinating tour by David in a museum that lets you see how cotton was spun and learn the history of the factory and surrounding area. Visiting the basement floor and looking at where the workings were was really interesting. Apparently this museum is under threat of closure which is a great pity though not a huge surprise really because it wasn't very visible around Belper aaaaaand the parking seemed a bit of an afterthought. Still, it was wonderful wandering in the sunshine around the lanes nearby where workers lived.

Absolutely fabulous, history in one building a must for people to see. Unfortunately unless they can find a company willing to help keep our heritage alive it will close in September. Our past soon to be forgotten. Please anyone out there that could help keep our textile history alive please contact the wonderful staff.
