Bristol Piano Lessons with Nikolai Westgarth

Been having lessons with Nikolai for 3 months or so and really loving it. In depth lessons, a fun and diverse mix of pieces to work through and a really engaging style of teaching. Highly recommended!

Nikolai is a great teacher. He is approachable and supportive. His method of teaching is very engaging/enjoyable, with many learning materials provided to suit your level which helps with effective practice at home. I have been learning with Nikolai for 5 months and have made so much progress in a short time. I really look forward to my lesson every week! 100% recommend.

About 8 weeks into lessons with Nikolai and really enjoying it! He is a really nice interesting guy and a great teacher - I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress in not much time. His homemade resources are also excellent. I thoroughly recommend him to anyone looking for a teacher!

I'd heard Nikolai specialised in adult beginners, which put me at ease as I get the sense many teachers are reluctant to teach adults!I was really surprised at the knowledge and interest he has in pedagogy; the science of teaching/learning. I've only had a couple of lessons, but I found that the advice he gave around learning, and the somewhat unusual methods led to me making a huge amount of progress, more than I ever could by myself.Really happy and highly recommend to anyone else who is on the fence about learning. Nikolai is an outstanding piano teacher and educator. He works tirelessly to create personalised lessons that are informed by current theories and cutting edge pedagogical approaches to learning. This, in addition to his unique teaching style make this lesson’s enjoyable, accessible and a refreshing change to the more traditional, and dated in my opinion, piano lessons. And unlike the more traditional piano lesson, progress in quick, which makes Nikolai one of Bristol’s best piano teachers. Highly recommended!!

My daughter who is 9 years old has been having piano lessons with Nikolai for the past six months. Although she has been learning the piano for a few years, she had not learnt yet to read the music. It was wonderful to see that just after a few lessons with Nikolai and following his method practicing at home, she was able to read the notes and the rhythm, and started to play pieces Nikolai provided soon after. She was very happy with this progress and the greater sense of autonomy in her learning and practice, and is always happy with her lessons with Nikolai. I particularly appreciate Nikolai’s thoughtful pedagogy and openness. I would recommend him to anyone wanting to develop their learning of the piano, especially if they are interested in classical music. Merci Nikolai!

I have only been doing lessons for a couple of months but can already see the improvements. Nikolai is a terrific teacher and helps you learn at your rate and pace.

Really enjoying my lessons with Nikolai! Have seen great improvement with every lesson and he always has great energy and recommendations for practise outside of lessons also. Coming as a beginner I’ve always felt comfortable and encouraged. Couldn’t ask for a better tutor!
