I personally believe that this school is nowhere near the level of Dixons Allerton as the school does not provide effecient support to students. Students were given a powerpoint test in GCSE year for ICT. I just dont understand why students are tested on powerpoint as its pointless. For example GCSE ICT students were given test on how to use powerpoint as well as how to add images/ text to powerpoint. GSCE IT students should be tested on basics and advanced level of IT not Microsoft Office. Do not send your children to this school as their exam results and teaching level are below average. The only reason why students decide to go to this school as once students join they each recieve a free ipad which attracts students to be part of this school. At the end of the day I personally feel that education is very important and vital, therefore their are more advanced schools such as Dixons Allerton or Dixons City. What ever you do please do not send your students to this school as their teaching is not good enough, therefore its below average. Finally, all parents would like their children to receive the best possible education, so I am asking you to not choose this school for a number reasons as students get distracted from learning as they each have free ipads and teaching is not at high standard level.Ofsed visited the school and said that overall the school is not good enough as its below average in all departments. Please view Ofsed findings below.Students’ achievement is not consistentlygood across the academy. For example, students’ achievement in both English andmathematics has not been good enoughsince 2012, when the academy opened.Students have not always made the progress expected of them and the proportion making better-than-expected progress has been below average. The quality of teaching is inconsistent anddoes not always enable students to makegood or better progress in the subjects theystudy. Students’ speaking skills areunderdeveloped. Questioning and challengein the classroom do not always require themto think more deeply about their work and tojustify the answers they give. Planning and lesson activities do notconsistently ensure that students makeexpected or more than expected progress inthe subjects they study. Marking, while improving, is inconsistent across the academy. Students do not always receive the necessary advice on how to improve their work. On occasions, students do not show enough pride in the presentation of their work. There is some low-level misbehaviour in lessons and around the academy site. Attendance and punctuality are still not as good as they should be. The benefits of the vertical tutor system are not yet fully embedded. Although teaching and attainment are getting better, the sixth form requires improvement.

My brother goes to this school and gets corrections everyday for no reason. The teachers don’t take the time to explain why they gave it to him and so he gets in trouble for not knowing the reason when it’s the teachers who wrongly gives detentions without thinking. Absolutely frustrating! Especially when he tries to explain his situation, he gets accused of “answering back” and so gets in even more trouble when it’s just that he hasn’t done anything to deserve them.

I don't like this school. Teachers never listen to what you have to say. I would really like to leave this school. This school even forces you to choose a language for GCSE. Behaviour is also absolutely disgusting. I'm actually not surprised at how many people don't like this school, all my friends want to leave as well. If you have kids, take them to Beckfoot or a school like that you will regret taking your kids here. Taking them here would be a terrible mistake. If only there was an option to rate 0 stars. Thank you

Interesting times at SLA. Looking at other reviews you wouldn't consider this place for your kids, but to anyone reading reviews from a while back I'd recommend checking out what's happening now. SLA is in rapid improvement. Gigantic strides already made and things are moving in the right direction in so many ways. Still improvements to be made of course, but if you're thinking of writing the school off, don't. Visit and check for yourself. I did, and what I saw led me to take a permanent full time teaching job at Samuel Lister. After just weeks I'm really impressed with what I'm seeing compared to what has gone on before. This school has a great deal to offer and I'm glad to be part of it.

There should be an option for 0 stars, as this is exactly what an academy of this dire calibre deserves. Although the most recent Ofsted report speaks for itself, there are numerous unsatisfactory areas in the academy that the report didn't cover. If you're unaware, the academy received the worst possible score; inadequate across the board. This 'grade' was given when the academy had been warned prior to Ofsted's arrival, so it still doesn't really reflect how poor the school is. Students were given threats to behave, or they'd be severely reprimanded. Older students were unaffected by this, so all the troublemakers were isolated from the rest of the school for no apparent reason during the Ofsted examination. Coincidence? However, despite all their attempts, the rust of the decrepit school rose to the surface. If your child is looking to go to this school, take it from someone who wasted 5 years there; I'd advise you to send them elsewhere. There are many quality schools around the area which will welcome new students with open arms. Samuel Lister Academy is not a place you want your children to grow up. On days where the school isn't being inspected, teachers will often merge students who misbehave, with students who behave impeccably. There is no reward system in place for students who overachieve. They are often held back due to their misbehaving peers, which should definitely not occur at an academy striving for 'outstanding achieving for all.' Rather, students who divulge in low-level disruption often gain more of the teachers attention. The academy will try to convince people that it has changed and will continue to improve, but the unfortunate truth is that as soon as no one is inspecting them, they'll return to their substandard quality.Though I do believe teaching is extremely important, there is something else that is massively lacking in this academy; building students into members of the community. Students aren't taught to give back to their community, so the state of the school is shocking, and the behaviour of students outside of school is disgusting too.The school promises that 'Students will feel safe and secure in all parts of the school and will experience the school as a caring and nurturing environment.' However, the school was recently robbed and all security systems had been bypassed. Now, imagine if the students had been present while the robbery had occurred? Secondly, there are numerous exploitations around the school which allow anyone to enter the premises. The doors on every building are extremely weak and can be opened with little to no strength. I will not disclose all the exploits for the safety of the students. Lastly, bullying occurs on a huge scale in this academy. It isn't even deemed as a problem due to it's prevalence - it's the norm. The school has below average GCSE results and absolutely shocking A-Level results. Bearing in mind that these two results will shape your children's lives, is it a risk worth taking? The Year 11 class of last year were given supply teachers for many of their subjects, after seven or eight good quality, highly paid members of staff had left. The school doesn't have enough students, so it's intake of money is lower than it should be. The capacity of the school is somewhere around 1100, and the number of students is around 700. The school is underfunded. This means that the school tried to lower the money spent, and the easiest way to do this is to get rid of high paid staff. You get what you pay for. The school appointed newly qualified teachers in order to lower the outtake of money. They compromised the quality of teaching for money. Quite appalling. The school would have been shut down if the new building hadn't been under construction.Have you noticed that the school is either rated 5 stars or 1 star in these Google reviews? It's because the school forced students to rate the school highly. Simply pathetic. If your children currently attend the school, I advise you to send your children elsewhere immediately.

This school is the best school in whole of Bradford. The teachers are amazing they are so helpful and are very kind. They deal with bullying very efficiently and is very good. I am a student and I have been at this school for three years and it is outstanding I have learnt so much in this school and I would recommend this to any child because this school is worth it.

This is more a prison/correction facility than a school.Teachers have a standard to keep to (their own personal rules). 2 different teachers asked the same question will give you 2 different answers.Kids get a correction for asking why they've been given a warning.Parents get accused of persistently calling school to ask why the child has a detention.Staff are incompetent so avoid at all costs
