The Beckford Arms
I don’t use the word exceptional lightly, the staff at The Beckford Arms really are exceptional. Not sure where they’ve been recruited from or who has trained or selected them but whatever the answer, bravo: A very affable barman and great waiters, all without exception extremely pleasant, polite, attentive and good at what they do, a real credit to the place.Food is also very good and the pub itself is a pretty, warm, welcoming little gem which I have been to twice now, the first time just 5 days ago, the second time today, this time for a lovely dinner. Now that we’ve found it, we will be returning very frequently. Love this place, I really really do.

We visited the area for an overdue catch up with a long-standing friend of my wife. We had a booking- probably a good idea I would think. We were blessed with a beautiful summer evening so we’re seated outside - it’s open but shaded. The greeting from the young staff was spot on, the attention from the servers was first class all evening. Absolutely no rushing which I like. I had lamb -perfectly cooked- as my main. It came with polenta and asparagus. Superb. My companions both had cod which they rated the same. We had starters and pudding and enjoyed everything. Everything well worth my five star rating.

Lovely, slightly quirky pub with beautiful rooms. Pleasant additional touches - a tea pot (I’m a two cuppa girl) yand luxury bathroom lotions etc. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Suggested a couple of interesting places to visit locally. Breakfast was a delight - wide choice of top quality items. I managed to leave a tee shirt behind stay and it was posted on to me.Will definitely stay again

Very good service and Avery pleasant atmosphere. We sat in the pub area infront of the fire. The staff found out it was our anniversary and we were given a discount on our bill. Very nice gesture.

Lovely lunch, preceded by a drink in the garden. I had the bavette and fries, which I enjoyed very much. Good range of things on the menu, nice selection of wines and beers. Really friendly and efficient service.

Absolutely wonderful stay. Friendly welcome, lovely room, delicious dinner and excellent breakfast. Not sure we could find any faults with The Beckford and wish we had stayed longer. We will be back!

A beautiful place. They’ve nailed the atmosphere. More of a food pub than a drinking one it seemed. Great food and good value. The Guinness and chocolate is a siren song of a pudding, calling me back even now, just a few hours later.

The Beckford Arms
Stopped here for lunch on our way to Plymouth. Friendly service, yummy Sunday roast and Bravette steak with chips. The chips were great, crunchy not soggy. We sat in the outdoor but covered courtyard area. Has a nice garden area for dogs to wander around as well as picnic style tables to enjoy a drink. Service was friendly and attentive. Would come back if in the area.
