Always a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Fantastic chance to get up close to some beautiful trains and to learn about the history of the SVR group and how they saved such an important railway. Fabulous cafe with a great range of food and cakes and brilliant viewing platform over the line and surrounding area. They had a Lego event on whilst we were there which was fab for kids!

The engine house at highley is free to visit when you purchase a day ticket, you can call in to the gift shop anytime, some great Severn valley gifts for sale . We went to watch the Severn valley railway day of dance, great entertainment with Morris dancers at every station

Do I recommend buying tickets in advance? The engine house is free to visit and awesome with interactive features for kids and grown ups, offering you the opportunity to get up close and personal with the steam era of transportation.. it's just great for anyone with an interest in trains, transport or engineering. There's a cafe, good toilet facilities with lifts etc. Outdoor area to sit, eat etc. access local area, walks and pub.I would recommend booking a ticket taking a train to the station. Great day out, happy to recommend and will return.

Excellent museum for both young and old. A superb collection of steam locomotives and carriages on display. Upstairs cafe with a viewing balcony for passing trains.

We enjoyed another trip on the Severn Valley Railway. During half term, there was a large number of dinosaurs made from lego. Beside each one was a plaque telling the reader how many bricks were used, time taken and how many built it and its weight. If you purchase a freedom of the line ticket, you have a free trip next time.

I really enjoyed The Engine House, it is a very pleasant place to visit indeed. The place is well laid out with excellent facilities, is light and airy, spacious too. The food was good as was the service, the balcony outside the restaurant is super to relax, look at the countryside and the steam trains when running! The museum is fairly small for a train shed but there is a lot to see and enjoy.I would have rated the place 5 star but unfortunately the men's urinals packed up early in the day and weren't repaired. This is a must go to museum and cafe.

We had a day out on the Severn Valley railway and this was mentioned as a 'free entry' option for a stop off. Lots to look at when you get there and some quite informative stuff, no where as big in scale if your thinking of york train museum or something similar but still impressive. The visitor centre also has a cafe and a playpark. Highlight was that you could go in a couple of the trains.

Great to see and explore some wonderful steam engines. You don't realise how big they are until you get up close to them.

We've lived in Highley for a year now and never knew this place existed until today and so glad we do as we really enjoyed our trip here today. There's a gift shop as you walk in and lots of trains in excellent condition there's a royal mail one you can go in and the kids can sort the mail inside it. There's a cafe upstairs (lifts available) with a nice balcony you can sit and enjoy your food with lovely views and trains going by. At the moment they have a science show which the children really enjoyed making slime and there's also an outdoor play area. All in all a lovely day out that doesn't cost a penny

Grandchildren always enjoy the Engine House. This time we got off the train to go and use the play area, it started to rain, but to the boys' delight there was a huge train set for them to play with. They had a great time.
