Ohlenschlager & Rice

After being hung up in a smoky atmosphere for 30 years, our oil painting had a layer of tar and grease on it, that Ohlenschlager and Rice did a fantastic job in cleaning. They filled a couple of holes and re-framed it so it looks good as new. We would absolutely recommend this fantastic team to restore any paintings in the future – they even hand delivered it to us at our home in Woking – what service!

I purchased an oil on canvas portrait from a small art gallery in Devon. The varnish was discoloured due to its age (19th century) and there were some fine-line cracks on the young man's face and in the background. Ohlenschlager and Rice treated the painting with extreme care and sympathetically cleaned and restored it. The restoration has revealed so much more detail - highlights in the hair and clothing were brought to light - and I am absolutely thrilled with the finished result.

I had an oil painting that was severely yellowed , with age , grime , possibly nicotine and dull varnish ,.The painting had also suffered a few knocks and had paint totally missing from a couple of places within the canvas .Naturally due to its condition the art was never hung but despite this I loved it and thought maybe it could be repaired ,having done my research i chanced upon Ohlenschlager and Rice ,it also happened that they were close to me here in West Yorkshire .I met with Ms Rice and was delighted in her delight at my picture , she assured me it 'could be done ; throughout the process communication was excellent and Ms Rice's Knowledgeable and friendly attitude only added to my conviction id chosen wisely .well ...... on the day of collection after the restoration I was absolutely , nay beyond delighted with the excellent craftmanship of the job in hand , the picture was mesmerising and the repairs truly undetectable .I COULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY HIGHLY ENOUGH !!!THOROUGHLY AND UTTERLY DELIGHTED ,THANK YOU ANNE .

As I write this, I am seated in front of the oil painting my forbear created over 100 years ago. He was an impoverished Scottish artist who we know often captured Arran landscapes. Thanks to Ohlenschlager and Rice I believe I now know the precise location. Anne, having spotted an old tower in the background, researched it simply because she was interested. It was evident Anne had enjoyed the whole process, from research to restoration. Having the painting and frame cleaned, after twenty years plus of my thinking about it (!) has given a new life, an unexpected vibrancy to the work. It is a pleasure to have.
