About the Business

Cannop Ponds | Forestry England | The site was originally home to the Severn and Wye Railway, which was constructed to allow exploitation of the mineral resources of the Forest of Dean. The ponds were created in 1825 and 1829 to supply a waterwheel at Parkend Ironworks. Today, they are used for fishing by the Yorkley Angling Club and the site makes an idyllic spot to view local birdlife. Enjoy the picturesque picnic area overlooking the ponds and look out for the Mandarin ducks, reed warblers and a pair of nesting mute swans. Walking trails will take you around the ponds or bring your bikes and join the Family Cycle Trail to explore the wider forest.

Beautiful place. Lovely walks around pond. It is threatened with closure. Please support the campaign!

Beautiful! Some lovely trails in this area. There is a cafe down by the lake. The track we walked down took a couple of hours, seemed to be around a 4 mile round trip. Most of the trails were bike friendly.

Amazing hidden gem! If it's a hot day and you fancy a puddle in the stream bring your flip flops and there's picnic tables scattered around. Bring change for the carpark however as signal isn't great out there as in the forest. Was £2 for 2 hours I believe.

Gorgeous, plenty of swans and ducks on the pond, short walk all the way around, pay and display parking. Looked like a cycle/walking trail very close to the pond. Beautiful views.

Cycled past there (once) on my return to the FoD cycle centre. It looked like it was really relaxing. I may stop foe a little while the next time I am in the area.

A nice place to hangout with friends and family in summer. Parking is available but we can only use coins. There are cycle tracks which will take us inside the forest and that's a great experience. Or you can walk around the ponds and get some fresh air. Total worthy visit.

Peaceful place with lots of picnic benches. Lovely stream for a doggy dip. Sometimes it can flood. Beware of cycles as it's part of the cycle trail. Often a cafe here. No toilets. Free parking. Not very good for wheelchair users.

Lovely peaceful place to sit on one of the many benches and watch the wildlife, with some lovely walks thrown in for good measure. £2 for 2 hours parking seems fair enough (or £5 all day). Apparently threatened with closure, which would be a big shame.

Great place for a quick and easy walk around the lake. Hiking and biking trails direct from the car park if you want more of a challenge. Nice little food stand for hot rolls, tea and coffee, and ice creams Plenty of wildlife and nice scenery. Take money for parking as the phone signal is not great

Beautiful place for families who want to walk or just relax and watch the birds and other wildlife around the Ponds. A spacious picnic area for those who want to take their own food and drink along. Only one negative point is that there are not any waste bins around?
