A lovely evening catching up with a friend. Never previously visited this pub despite driving past numerous times over the past decades. Lovely cosy atmosphere, tasteful Christmas decor, friendly staff, excellent service, dog friendly, great quality food, good value. Two very happy customers, will return.

Super local pub with really friendly staff and locals. This was our second visit - we use the Black Horse touring site opposite as an overnight stay before an early tunnel crossing to France. Always glad of the excellent food on offer. In a strange twist of fate, our two visits have coincided with both the death of HM The Queen Elizabeth and the coronation of HM King Charles!

Booked a table to eat at 8 pm before an overnight stay at the campsite opposite. Waited an hour for a starter to share, with the lovely lad who served us apologising constantly - delay due to the starter being new to the menu and the chef having trouble with the air fryer! The mains arrived after another long wait and mine was a completely different meal to what I’d ordered. We pointed this out but as it was so late, we’d been waiting so long and were starving by this point, we didn’t make a fuss and I said I would eat it anyway. It was a lovely seafood tagliatelle and tasted delicious. The waiter checked on the order he’d taken from me, had written down the correct order and said it was the chefs error. He spoke to the owner (who had by this time gone to bed!) to ask for a reduction on the bill but was told it was the chefs fault not theirs so no discount would be given. By this time it was 10 pm, I’d eaten what I wanted of the meal and just wanted to leave. I told him I’d only pay for the cost of the meal I’d ordered and we paid and left. No free drink was offered in compensation for our horrendous wait or the food error, which would have been appreciated, and we left with a very bad impression of the place. I would say though that the staff were lovely and I felt so sorry that they were left to explain the error rather than owner or chef. It’s telling though that the campsite give a list of recommended local eateries and this place isn’t on it despite being literally 2 minutes away!!

Dark during the day, but a nice environment after dark. Frequented by locals, people stopping for a beer after work on the way home and people staying at the campsite across the road. The outside space is a bit grim with a few benches next to a busy road and the large, featureless pub carpark. The selection of beers is a bit limited, no real session bitter, but Laine and Doombar are acceptable alternatives. We returned in the evening for dinner and had classic burgers which were very good. Joshua who served us was very good and the young people behind the bar were also friendly. We reserved a table for dinner which was a good move as they obviously manage the work load in the kitchen. We arrived a little early, but were not given our menus until our reservation time which makes a lot of sense. The buyers came with home made coleslaw and nice fries, the burgers were served medium rare which meant they weren't dried out or chewy.A soft close door mechanism on the front door to the pub would improve things as the constant slamming of the door is wearing. We will return to eat if we're in the area.

The Black Horse is a really nice place. Lovely atmosphere and nice log fire. Michelle and her team are very dedicated at providing a nice friendly service to their customers. We had a family wake there recently and I'm so glad my family chose this place. Thank you

Had a lovely evening. Food was amazing. The squirrel pate starter was particularly delicious, highly recommended. Portions were very generous. Will be back soon.

What a gem. I didn't want to leave to good a review as the secret would be out. The decent pint of Guinness, dinner is simple but perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is really friendly and the staff just top it off, really nice people both sides of the bar.

The food is fabulous. I had the burger, my wife had the ploughman’s. The presentation was first class and everything was so obviously home made. Can’t knock it at all. The bar staff are very friendly and attentive going over and above to make our lunch an enjoyable experience. We’ll definitely be coming back.
