I visited Alakazam last friday and felt compelled to write a review. This was my second time visiting the shop my first was a brief in out visit however Andy was more than helpful. This time I had the pleasure of meeting Peter who took great pleasure and time showing me numerous different effects as I was undecided from watching videos online. It was very interesting that although clearly a shop at no point did I feel like I was being sold anything I was simply being shown with no expectation to buy. A fantastic experience and Peter is a wealth of knowledge

Alakazam have released some top effects over the years, but that seems to be drying up now. Old effects are dusted off and re-released under different names or released as minor variations. The quality control isn’t what it was. They’re also refusing to move with the times when it comes to customer service. Despite the fact we live in times where creators produce misleading trailers and product descriptions, Alakazam still refuse to allow returns except in the case of defects. Which is a massive downside for me. I’ve been burned by dishonest marketing in the past but been fortunate that Propdog, Penguin, Vanishing Inc etc all understand this and allow returns because of it. Vanishing Inc’s ‘satisfaction guarantee’ is really leading the way. By contrast, Alakazam refuse returns even when the marketing of their own products is clearly not always transparent. It’s also not clear how ‘honest’ the reviews posted on their website are. Friends and I have noticed it’s basically impossible to get negative or middling reviews of Alakazam products posted on the site. Which creates a massively skewed impression. On asking to return an item I felt was both disappointing and deceptively marketed I was basically blamed for not calling up and discussing it with them first. So if you do shop here, be sure to forensically grill them before making a purchase. Or, y’know, buy it from somewhere trading in the 21st Century.

As a middling beginner just getting back into magic for the first time since I was about 10, I'm so glad I found Alakazam!After watching a few of their social media videos, I got a notification that they were about to have a live launch, so I took a break from my masters dissertation and by the end of the stream I'd bought two effects. Since then, I've bought several more, mostly online. Their online store is seamless, delivery is usually quick (subject to Royal Mail and effects being in stock), the effects themselves are always value for money and the online instructional videos make learning the effects so simple, even for beginners like me.A special shout-out to Andy ... I live about 35 miles from the store, so the first time I was able to visit in person was over the Christmas/New Year period. I managed to get stuck in traffic and began to panic I wouldn't get there before they closed up. When I arrived, Andy was on his own and clearly winding down for the day. Yet despite unintentionally being one of those customers" that I used to get frustrated by when I worked in retail

Use this shop online a lot and visited the shop first time on Saturday 10th after a 2 hour drive. Andy, and Peter were in the shop and can't be any nicer. Great service and products and the staff are willing to dem most items if not all. Definitely be back again if I can get the time has its not the closest shop for me. Highly recommended
