It's a fabulous place to visit. The guide was so informative and entertaining. The experience of being lifted into the air on a few struts is amazing.

Not the first visit, that was back in the 70's. Been a couple of times since, once for a beer festival, another for a Steam Festival. This is a fantastic piece of listed Victorian canal engineering, made to link the Shropshire Union canal to the River Weaver, for trade. Restored a couple of times to retain its function to transfer leisure boats via the side by side caissons. A pleasure boat operates both ways too if you fancy a ride. There is a substantial museum, free entry, and cafe as well as being sited in a landscaped area. Parking is reasonably priced, and it's next to Marbury Arboretum too. It's a very worthwhile visit. Highly recommended

Great place to spend a few hours. Large car park two tariffs, £3 all day or £2 for 3hrs. Country park area for walking. A few minutes walk down to the canal and visitor centre which has toilets, cafe & gifts. There's a museum and old fashioned penny arcade downstairs, there is a lift. We booked the boat trip while we were there, it was'nt very busy probably because it was a wet day in September during term time. The boat trip was brilliant very informative commentary the whole trip. The lift is an amazing piece of engineering. We went down the lift, the boat is maneuvered into the centre of the river at the bottom for a few minutes so you can take photo's. The river cruise went as far as Northwich. It's well worth a visit just to see the lift.

Great place to visit and see the working boat lift, lovely grounds all well cared for and clean which is a great credit to the volunteers, entry was free you only need to pay for parking which is really cheap. Visitors centre sells tickets for the boat trips on the canal which includes going up and down the lift, also includes a gift shop and cafe and all the history section which also explains all the engineering of the lift. We'll worth a visit.

Really good place to visit even if you don't have an interest in superb engineering. The whole site is run very well, with the visitor centre being the highlight of the visit, telling the story of the lift. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit to anyone, it even caters for children with a play area. Large car park with disabled spaces that are free to use for blue badge holders. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

Very interesting place and the boat lift is fascinating. Went on the boat trip down the river and then up the boat lift. Very interesting commentary on the boat. Small information area, penny arcade machines great for kids. Very nice cafe with delicious cakes. Staff and volunteers friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

We went for a one-hour boat ride. There was excellent commentary about the history of the boat lift and the places we saw during our riding. I definitely recommend it for the information they share.

On visiting the Chester area, we found out about this place. If you are into good old British engineering or waterways, you will definitely like this. My wife is not into either, but really enjoyed it. We purchased tickets to travel on the lift, which also includes a trip down the river. The guys on the boat were VERY knowledgeable about the structure and the local history. A good half day excursion.
