Unbelievable appointment 11:30 finally got seen at 2pm just to be told to rest at home something that could of been told to me over the phone what a waist of time and money. First Emergency waiting times hitting 18+ hours now appointments not even running on time yet your late for appointment and you get treated like it's the end of the world but it's fine for them to cancel appointments and make patients wait. The rvi is just getting worse reopen the general hospital would help and benefit the north east hugely it's still standing so why is the north east not taking advantage of the site. It would of been better using the general hospital site to build on and instead of using the restricted space that the rvi was built on.

Excellent staff doing a great job. Please keep it up!Unfortunately the government restrictions on staffing and pay are making things difficult for all.It might appear that this is planned, who knows might be something to do with making the numbers look bad to encourage privatisation

The care at the hospital is outstanding. The only negative is the pharmacy! We travel 3 hours for my husbands to see his consultant and he is prescribed meds which have to be collected now from the hospital pharmacy. Lloyds Pharmacy at the RVI is enough to send anyone over the edge. 15 minute appointment with the consultant and 1 hour & 15 mins waiting at the hospital pharmacy and we haven’t even got the meds. Ridiculously small pharmacy for the size of the two hospitals. Why they ever stopped allowing us to bring a script back to West Cumbria is beyond me. Another woman had been waiting for 2 hours for her script with a 5 month old baby in a pram. When she went to enquire if she had been forgotten about because the screens still showed in progress to be told “oh it’s ready for collection you’ll have to wait in that queue there”. Well she gave them it 10 barrels as the queue was right down the length of the hospital and she’d waited two hours and no one called her script number. Couldn’t even describe it as organised chaos it’s just absolute carnage!

My experience with the plastic surgery dept was absolutely shocking.Their attitude towards my personal experience having skin canver was to treat me like I had no say, no right to ask and definitely no right to choose.I was a lump of meat. When I did question treatment, I was kicked out of the consultant's office...I have zero trust in this place.(I'm on the whole they do great work, but my experience was appalling)

I came here to have a brain tumour removed and the amount of care and attention I received from every one who worked here was 200% and that includes surgery and anaesthetic team doctors nurses heakthcare assistants domestic staff and everyone will do what they can for you to make your stay in hospital so memorable. The meals are delicious there's plenty of choice and are always piping hot if your a fussy eater then staff will try and give you alternative meals. You don't have to worry about anything all your needs are taken care of and you are well looked after the wards are kept lovely and clean

Outstanding! Been coming regularly to the RVI for 4 years and I have never had anything other than first class service from all staff!! Well organised and ran, great nurses, friendly and funny domestic staff and top notch health care assistants especially on ward 20. The maxofacial department is well ran as well with great consultants . The hospital itself is modern, super clean, easy to find your way around and has great spaces for visitors to use.

The two stars are for the nurses and the doctors who are first class and would be worthy of five stars if that was all one had to consider. The food given to patients I would not feed to a dog. Nauseating would be a kind description. My dying mother was given such bad food I was forced to bring in sandwiches from Marks and Spencer as the prices in the hospital cafeteria are astronomical. They are dying to get rid of the patients, my mother was discharged twice when clearly she was not capable to look after herself. The car parking, as with most hospitals is expensive though when you are visiting someone who is dying they offer a lower rate. One of the main bugbears people have is that football supporters are allowed to park there on match days effetely blocking up the car park to hospital visitors. The buildings seem clean and security is in my opinion good.I feel that there should be no more than four patients in a room as is the case in other European countries. Surely this would be more hygienic for a start. Ultimately one can not help but feel when an elderly person is admitted they will soon catch a superbug or other condition and ultimately die. I find them very quick to lend a hand in this regard.Give it a miss.

I visit the eye department regularly after having an accident 13 years ago. Thankfully the eye department saved my eye. I later went on to have a corneal transplant and lens implant. Professor Figueiredo and his team are absolutely fantastic.

The care my Son , , received on Ward 38 critical care unit RVI was exceptional. My son rarely requires admission to hospital despite his complex health needs, but previous admissions ( another Trust) have been nothing short of traumatic. We were therefore dreading this admission but I can honestly say I have witnessed nursing and healthcare at it’s very best. Both my son and I have felt safe and supported throughout his stay. There are so many nurses on the unit who have been involved in Peters care , each one of them caring , compassionate , and very proactive in communicating with us and keeping us informed , which eased a lot of anxiety. The individual nurses assigned to Peters room were all exceptionally kind and supportive. I would like to name them all but they know who they are and I really would hate to leave anyone out . To be fair everyone on the ward, the ward clerk , domestics , nursing assistants, nurse associates, students , sisters , physios, medical team and patient services were all very kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble . The unit always appeared well managed and calm despite being incredibly busy. I really cannot thank everyone enough . During our stay on ward 38 I believe we experienced nursing at its very best. Thank you so very much . Diane and Peter Dent Posted on behalf of the Dent family

So very disappointed I had been using the hydro pool and because it was the wrong time of the month I notified the hospital that I wasn't able to attend that particular appointment and had to talk to a male member of staff at the RVI he was good it was embarrassing for me the male member of staff was professional though reassuring me, when I attended the following week I was told that the physio wasn't there it was supposed to be my last appointment I was jutted. This was not the fault of the man I spoke to but the physio. Such a shame.
