The Altnacealgach Motel
Stopped here recently for some refreshments. Nice enough spot, clean and tidy premises, attractive interior. Unfortunately spoiled by the hostile, ill tempered and rude bloke behind the bar. Can’t comment on the quality of the F&B as we did not stay long enough to sample it. PS we did not have a Dog with us. That must have been some other dissatisfied customer. Sayonara.

Stayed in August (sorry for the late review!) and had a wonderful time! The location is so calming, right on a beautiful loch. The room was large, clean and well maintained with easy parking around the back. The kitchenette was definitely an added bonus even though we ended up having dinner at the pub. Dinner was amazing (and the profiterole dessert was to die-for!). Had a great chat with the owners, they had some fun stories about the area and tips for our ongoing trip which was great! Just wish we had been able to stay longer!

When you walk into a motel/cafe the least you expect is good staff with good communication skills who can take an order and act upon it.On this occasion, we simply asked for black tea and coffee with two slices of cake. The person with a goatee beard who served us was polite at first, then by recommending that on our next visit, we could stay at the motel. However, his attitude seemed to go from bad to worse every moment he had to do something. When he walked into the kitchen with the tea and coffee I thought how rude.Maybe if his attitude was different we would stayed however the general feeling was that he didn't want us to stay We gave up on him due to his attitude, and left without having the items we were going to purchase. A very bad experienced and one where we won't venture into again. Please avoid this location if you do not want to walk into the same confortational attitude. The images used for the cafe/motel make the location look appealing however do not be fooled by the exterior and pass this location knowing you possible saved yourself from being abused by the members of staff.

We stayed here a few years back on a trip on the motorbike. At that time the owners had the motel, but not the inn next door. They now own both and have updated the inn.The room is simple, but is maintained very well (it looked the same - clean, and in good condition - as when we stayed 5 years back). As well as the bed/beds, there are a couple of chairs and coffee table at the TV and a kitchenette with microwave. For completeness it's worth mentioning that there is no wifi in the rooms, but there is in the inn and outside it.Bathroom was also very clean. The location of the motel is terrific if you're visiting these parts. It's just under 20 miles from Ullapool on a decent road and in the midst of glorious scenery. The single track road outside is actually an A road, but disturbance when sleeping is not really an issue!Don't be put off by the self-catering" description of the motel (as I nearly was). It can be that if that's what you want

I really enjoyed my stay here and have to say that it exceeded my expectations. As a solo traveller on a bicycle, it’s really hard to find affordable accommodation around here that’s not a hostel. As soon as I turned up, the owners showed me where I could store my bike.I was really happy with the room - fairly simple but everything you need and spotlessly clean. There’s even a handy inventory to show you what’s in the kitchen. Loved the little TV area and the view of the loch is beautiful. You can even swim in it!As you’d expect for a remote location, there’s no phone signal or 4G but you can get on the Wi-Fi network in the bar next door. It was actually quite nice not having phone signal in the room! There’s an information manual in the room which I actually really enjoyed reading - some nice personal touches! You can buy breakfast, lunch and dinner from the pub next door which is also owned by the motel owners. The prices are incredibly reasonable. In fact, it’s probably one of the only places left where a pint costs less than £5. The food is really tasty too.

Very nice motel along the NC500, my brother and I stayed a night, including some drinks at the bar, some breakfast, some cakes (millionaires shortbread and a brownie). Rooms were great, TV worked well, beds very comfy, clean and warm. Breakfast was great too, staff were friendly enough, not sure why so many reviews of the chap being rude as he was very helpful and polite when we spoke to him. Recommending some places to go visit too.

Despite being a 2-star hotel, we approached check-in feeling positive about a good experience based on it's 4.4 star overall rating on Google. However, not long after arriving, our experience was soured by the service we received from the owners. Objectively, the property and rooms are relatively good and not any different to our expectations. It's actually quite a quaint little motel and all of the rooms overlook a loch directly across the road which gives a relaxing water view. The room itself was relatively clean and everything in the room functioned as expected. There was an information book inside which detailed how the owners had come to purchase the motel and a bit about its history, which was endearing and interesting, and it was nice to stay at a small little motel supporting the owner's dreams of moving to and working in the local area. However, due to the time of year and location, there was a high incidence of midges in the area particularly around our specific room. We noticed this immediately as the midges crowded our room. My partner walked to reception to ask the owners what they would normally do about midges. At previous motels and airbnbs where midges were prominent, we were forewarned and offered smidge or similar protection. My partner was hopeful that something similar would be offered here, which it wasnt. This isn't the main issue though. My partner was immediately met with defensiveness and abrasiveness from the owners rather than advice or possible solutions. The owners blamed us for the thousands of midges that plagued the inside of our room, stating that we would have let them in when you brought in your luggage" and that "there were no midges when we cleaned the room this morning". When my partner explained that we hadn't actually brought in any luggage and had simply walked into the room

Great spot and great hosts. Room was large, clean and recently modernized - loved the seating area and good sized kitchenette. The room overlooks a small lake and it quite picturesque, with a pretty outdoor seating/eating area. The next door restaurant/bar is also great if you don't want to cook.

The motel is nicely situated next to a small lake in a quiet and remote area. The rooms were clean and okay, the shower was without any pressure and the man owner was super rude, would no one advice to come and stay here!!I did not swear to your husband, I was talking to myself after waiting for one hour for a small download, yes using the f word, but not to him! Then he was shouting to me, very rude to be precise! Thank you
