Matt from the Weymouth office has been handling the sale of my mothers house. From the first enquiry to get a quote for the work he has been super responsive and has always replied to emails, normally within minutes. Even when I sent emails late at night, he usually replied before 07:00 the next morning. Whilst house buying/selling always has ups and downs, Matt has been ready to act as soon as the other parties were in a position to move. To be honest I went out to three firms for quotes. As Matt replied within a few minutes I immediatly decided to go with his firm, as I have bought and sold quite a few houses and there is nothing more frustrating than your own solicitors holding up the process. I'm very glad we did use Pengillys, they were very efficient, always ready to act and billed exactly as agreed.

Phoned Pengillys today to make appointment to get Statutory Declaration witnessed. Recommended by Mustoe Shorter and previously used them during purchase of my flat. Experience, absolutely useless. Woman who answered the phone was so snooty, unhelpful and a disgrace to her employer with her unhelpful, attitude. She needs to go for retraining on how to work with the public in a way that is helpful and of value to a prospective customer. After today I will never use Pengilly's ever again and will never recommend them to anyone else. All due to this womans bad attitude. POartners in this business, please make note. Thank you.

My wife and I instructed Tom Cleall of Pengillys in the purchase of our first house; during the start of the Covid-19 outbreak, and with our first baby imminent.Tom pulled out all the stops to ensure we got in despite the measures being implemented at the time, and whatsmore he did so without any stress at all to us; we just left everything to him.I can confidently say that if we had used a run of the mill conveyancer rather than Tom, we would not have managed to get in our new home before lockdown ended, or perhaps at all.I would certainly recommend him to anyone who wants hassle free conveyancing, and we look forward to instructing him again in the future.

Very similar experience to Karen below!Myself and my boyfriend used Pengillys to purchase our first house. We dealt with Matt, and although the process was fast we were not happy with the service.Matt spelt my name wrong in several emails and on one document, I was also missed off of some emails completely (meaning my boyfriend had to forward on emails to me relating to my own house purchase). I found the emails quite blunt and no effort was made to expand and explain the legal terms (being a first time buyer this would have been helpful).We had a Declaration of Trust written up, which I believe was forgotten about until a few days before we completed on the house - I was the one who told Pengillys we hadn't received this document, and then it was written for us.I was told I could use my Help to Buy ISA twice (when it was unusable on the house we purchased), I was the one who had to tell them that -because the house was over the limit of the Help to Buy Scheme . Then it was added to our invoice (£50 for help to buy ISA fees) which again, I told them I was unable to use it.We were never told our keys were ready to pick up, I only found out by calling the estate agent.I know a few people wanting to buy and have been telling them to use a different solicitors, would not recommend.

I have been with Pengillys for approx 20 years and nothing is too much trouble for the friendly and professional team. They saw me through my acrimonious divorce, my Will making and later Will changes and most recently a house sale and purchase. Even when I lived further afield in Bristol I still had Pengillys act on my behalf. The service I have always received has been second to none, hence why I keep coming back. I am more than happy to recommend friends and relatives and always have positively glowing feedback. I would not go any where else.

We used Matt for our house purchase. He was extremely professional and prompt with all communications and proactive with any issues throughout the whole process. We would definitely recommend.

My brother is used Pengillys on a family law issue. He paid near £1100 and nothing was actually resolved and no follow up . No happy. He went else where paid alot less and see more of a light now with the issue.

My girlfriend and I used Pengillys following many recommendations from colleagues at work, and I have to say, they were absolutely fantastic. We were new to the Weymouth area, so weren’t sure who to use initially, but will always go to Pengillys from now on. Our first purchase fell through, as the seller couldn’t find another property within their price range, so we had to go through the process twice. Matt and Hannah were brilliant on both occasions, and did everything they could to chase up other Weymouth based conveyancers / solicitors who we found to be slow (understatement!) in responding to queries raised by Pengillys. If it hadn’t been for Hannah following up constantly, we would definitely have missed the stamp duty holiday. Thanks Pengillys, for all your help and efficient service during what was probably one of the busiest periods in property market history!

I used Pengillys to complete my purchase of a house this year. Both Matt and Hannah who worked on my case were non-responsive to my calls (I only ever spoke to Matt once, and never to Hannah) despite leaving messages with their PA and via email. They did not follow through on my instructions and made serious mistakes. Emails were always one liners usually less than 5 words with no attempt at civility, professionalism or mindfulness that I was the client and that I had needs. After many months of this approach I nearly gave up trying to make the purchase but was persuaded to continue by my partner. Once the purchase finally went through Matt made a mistake in the financials that would have cost me £1000 had I not noticed the mistake a few days later. When I raised it I was told (Yes I) to check again and no attempt was made to check their side. I had to insist it was looked at in order to get my money back. I never received an apology or acknowledgment. The money just got put into my account. Honestly, I'm not sure how this practice remains in business. I would strongly advise other potential clients to avoid using them.

Superb from start to finish. Matthew and team were extremely responsive, with great attention to detail. Made everything as easy as possible despite our sale having a (long) chain. Great value. Would highly recommend to remove the stress from at least this aspect of a sale!
