Thomas Gray Monument
13/2/20 Went for a walk in Stoke Poges and decided to start in Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens. There was a path leading to St. Giles Church, and on the front of the church was a stone that was engraved with the whereabouts of the tomb of Thomas Gray. I decided to go and take a look, so I walked through the graveyard and into Gray’s Field which is now run by the National Trust. At the end of a short pathway was the tomb which can also be accessed via Church Lane. I had to climb over a wooden stile to get right up and close to it. It’s a magnificent object, with beautiful words engraved on it. I’d always wondered what the structure was, so I’m glad my curiosity got the better of me. It’s well worth a visit.
