Ardgour House
After enjoying 7 consecutive spring half-term holidays at Ardgour house during the 90s and 2000s. What a shock to see how dilapidated it had become when we went this year. The outside looked great, but the inside was full of botched alterations. I can understand why the beautiful spiral staircase leading to the pool may have needed to be removed for safety reasons (though we had no problems, even with young children in our party), but did the quirky little passageway from the snooker room to the area that was the gym (now empty) really have to go? For both, if the decision was made to remove them, I’m sure it could have been done more sympathetically. Although the house always had the atmosphere of faded glory, it was comfortable and there was never mould in the bedrooms – and this was the first time I arrived to find a dirty sock in the room I was in, hardly the mark of great housekeeping. Sadly, I wish we had never gone back. In the early days we were greeted by Bob, who worked for the original family and loved the house, this time, the door was open with a security camera over it. I can only assume that Graeme is not counting on any return visits from his customers.

Just got home from a 1 week stay from this amazing, beautiful house. The scenery is amazing, the walks are amazing and you have so much to do including snooker, pool, table tennis, there is plenty of space to do activities in the garden also. It is suitable for all ages and dogs, the catering facilities are big enough for 20 people for quite awhile.Definitely worth it!

Just back from an amazing week away with family members at ardgour house. Absolutely stunning scenery, amazing walks and to top it off a beautiful house that the whole family got to enjoy. Something for everyone. We couldn't recommend this getaway highly enough it's just what the whole family needed, we cannot wait to go back.

Dont go there.1. The reason there are so few pictures of the property inside is that it not maintained well.A) It’s dirty. The pool is dirty, the water is cold. Dusty. Windows in our toilet have not been cleaned for years and are covered with spiders’ webs.B) there was no hot water in the taps for a 3 night stay with kids. Electric showers are not sufficient.C) wallpapers are old and they are ripped in many places - sb should clearly repair this2. The owners approach is simply hostile. He cancelled a reservation for a group of 5 families 1 week before the trip! accusing us of over occupancy of the place, despite being provided with a list of guests by name and age! After providing our occupancies and CVs he finally accepted again.. to accuse us in the end of over occupancy, even though we were 2 people less than planned (due to sickness) and 4 people less than maximum occupancy. The owner never showed up even to welcome and explain how things work. We were also accused of leaving the space in mess, although cleaning was included and we were not supposed to clean the house after us or wash the bed linen. Finally the owner Graeme provided negative feedback for.. asking if we can organize a BBQ/ bonfire. We asked, He said no, we didn’t do it. What’s wrong about asking? Some people should clearly not be in service industries.Stay away from this property, the current owner has clearly run a beautiful place into very poor condition and very far from what one would call - client oriented service.

The reviews are worth a read before you book as they will help you (both the good and less good)The good:- the location is fantastic. Amazing scenery, peaceful, pub within walking distance, swimming in the sea.- The house itself is massive and can easily cope with large groups- the communication with the owner was very good and clear- the house has loads of cool features - snooker table, swimming pool. table tennis etc which if the weather is poor will keep everyone busy- it is good value for money for the size and location.- we had a great time here and it met our groups needsThe less good:- the house and decor is tired- the bathrooms are very basic and in need of modernisation- the kitchen is basic and frustratingly we found dirty crockery in the cupboards- many of the mattresses were worn out and are in need of replacing- we found a dead mouse under a footstool in the drawing room (the smell led us to find it)Would we go back? Well maybe - there are many plus points and now we know what to expect I guess there will be no surprises.

I don’t recommend. The house itself is impressive from the outside, beautifully located. Inside the dining room and few bedrooms are really nice though everything requires refreshing and some renovation..BUT the owner’s attitude is really bad! He’s tried to cancel our reservation just few days before our arrival!! I felt it was because of our nationality. He asked about our jobs and lifestyle. It was really humiliating! Moreover, after we left he argued with us and left some terribible comments. We were a big group with children, but we all respected the place, kept it cleaned, kids didn’t break or misplaced antyhing..I travel a lot and have never been treated this way!

Went here for long weekend (20/04/2018) with 10 adults, 11 children and 2 dogs. Everyone had an absolute ball. Location excellent, lots of great walks straight from the front door. House itself was warm, homely, clean, rough round the edges and bursting with character, wouldn't change a thing about it. Lots to do in good or bad weather. Highly recommend!!!

I would advise anyone against booking a stay at Ardgour House. The place can list all the amenities (large kitchen, snooker, pool etc.,) - but the quality is such that takes away all the pleasure from potentially using it.Downsides-overall house is clearly a mess; spider nets everywhere; paint on walls falling due to humidity, no one takes care of it etc.,-pool is there; but it smells, water is cold and gives you a sense of a public pool from the 70s-I assume the owner tried to renovate bathrooms, but it looks more like clustering the dirt; mold everywhere; cheapest towels, lack of warm water (separate heaters only under shower)-owner is someone you want to stay away from; we asked if we could have a barbecue or a bonfire in the garden which led to him going into rage - you work in a service industry Sir! it's ok to say no and no one would have done anything (clearly we didnt have the fire after all)-while reviewing our stay, owner has put insulting comments about leaving the house a mess and staying with too many people (was not the case; he did not visit to validate, so just insult for the sake of ruining someones name)-stay away from this toxic personUpsides-beautiful outside area-large dining area-picturesque setting (but more for pictures, than to stay around)food for thought-nearest store is 40 minute drive from the place; keep that in mind when planning the stayNote: The place may have been great a while back. I was staying under a booking made by a friend of mine as we stayed with a group of friends with kids.

Such a serene calm location ( beautiful starry skies with clear weather). The house is huge and great for a big group (otherwise parhaps a bit spooky). It has an indoor pool and a sauna that were both fun. Beddings were clean and house was also in good condition condition. Close to a lot of nice walks. Recommend bringing food, extra toilet paper and extra duvets (heating works; electric heaters extra provided too but given its an old property insulation is not great and it can get cool at night).

Just had the most amazing week staying at Ardgour House.Haunted, Maybe.Romantic, Certainly.Fun, Definitely.Quirky, Eclectically.Value for Money Absolutely.Something for everyone in a beautiful setting, wonderful wildlife, we saw eagles, deer, red squirrels and much more. Lovely walks and lochans, we went paddle boarding on the larger one.Kitchen fantastic for storage of much food and great for cooking for a large group.Plenty to do inside with the pool, snooker room and games room, and a great outdoor space for badminton, bowls and a kick about. You Get what you pay for, it is an old house and has creaks but it all adds to the character at a really reasonable price for 22 people, you would not be able to book caravans at a camp site for the same price. This was our second visit and wont be our last.I don't know what everyone else is saying about poor communication from the owner, he was very amenable and kept us up-to-date about the Ferry and offered extra time to depart due to the ferry.Highly recommended, just don't expect modern or you will be disappointed, but that will be on you, its an old, old building, quirky, with imperfections but that is what I and you should expect. its all character.
