The King's School
My children went to the King's School for several years and it has been a really disappointing experience. The teaching is very uneven, some of their teachers are very good but some are really bad. The facilities on offer are poor, they have no food facilities whatsoever and were still using some old windows XP computers in 2014 ! And, the so-called ICT teacher could barely use a computer himself ??? The small-ish class sizes (about 23 per class) is a plus but the fact that the school is so small means that the kids often struggle to adapt when they have to move on to a bigger school after doing their GCSEs. Access is not the best either, they have a school bus but we found it so unreliable that our children ended up using public transport which was not ideal because it was expensive for us and tiring for them. My children go to a local state school now ( An Academy), the facilities are superb and we are very impressed by the efforts they are putting in to help the children achieve their best. They have free extra lessons almost every day after school and most Saturday mornings as well ! For all the years my children were there, the King's School rarely went the extra mile to help their pupils and I think that they rely too much on their reputation and their Christian ethos to attract new people instead of striving to achieve more. For around 500 pounds a month per child, I think that they offer really poor value for money, I would not recommend them to anybody. Either send your children to a proper private school or look for a decent state school near you and pay for extra lessons privately if necessary.

All of our four children have gone through the Kings School and we have been blessed by it as a family. I am sure the teachers work as a labour of love and for their Christian service as the school cannot be paying top salaries whilst keeping the fees remarkably low. It is a christian school and manages to support many christian families from different church backgrounds. With the small size of classes and the number of pupils in each year group they make a big effort to provide additional sporting activities and various school trips which are often facilitated by the teachers giving their own time to make them happen. I have read some negative comments and whilst no school is going to be perfect and Kings is not either - as an environment for my children it was the best place for them and I am grateful for the opportunity to send our children there.

The Kings School Harpenden was an oasis of learning, centre of excellent and peace for our 3 children and family. We felt at home from the first day in 2005 and continued to enjoy the school, staff and teachers for over 6 years. The Head Teacher - Mr. Case was always available to support both the children and parents in times of need and the Board of Trustees were very supportive especially during our family period of challenge. The staff were friendly, courteous and very knowledgeable.I would have love to still be part of the school but for the change of job and our 3 children have now outgrown the school years in Harpenden. The Kings School laid a solid foundation for our son who is now studying Aerospace Engineering in University.I highly recommend the school.ThanksTunde Disu

The King's School
The King's School has disappointingly lost it's ways. This was a good school up until Sept 2017. The spiritual essence that this school had has disappeared. They are trying far too hard to become like every other independent school, in doing so the unique special reputation this school once had, has diminished. All the spirit filled teachers have left and only the sub-standard remain. So many families have left this school over Summer of 2017, because they like we all saw the changes coming. In my opinion so many good teachers and students / families have left when all this could have been avoided by relieving the principal Clive Case of his duties. I fear the direction this school takes over the coming years as The King's School will remain in Clive Case's hands and will be special no more.

As a past parent of the school I can highly recommend The Kings School. The staff and leadership team create a warm and caring environment where children are encouraged to excel at their academic studies whilst having the opportunity to take part in, amongst other things, sport, music and outreach trips abroad all of which result in well rounded, confident pupils leaving the school to move on to the next phase of their education. If you are looking to give your child a positive education experience, underpinned by a strong Christian ethos then this is the school for you.

The reason I give this school a one star is that when I did the test I got 40th place and my friend got 42nd place and they give him the place at this point I was crying my eyes out because I got into nene academy so the school should get children from more religions I still think that the school choose the other child was because he was a Christian and I was a Hindu and when we did the appeal they said this school would not be fit for you so if you are looking for a good school you should go to Bourne grammar .

We have had connections with The Kings School for over 15 years and our 2 sons have gone through this school from preschool right through to year 11. In that time we had tremendous support academically and spiritually with our 2 sons and have maintained links with the school even after our sons have left the school. We continue to see how this school is positively building the young kids involved in the school.
