Avis Car Hire - Chester

AVOID. OVERCHARGED AND DISASTROUS PROBLEM RESOLUTION. They frist charged me VAT for a parking notice which is iligal, then I received another parking ticket due to their misleading return instructions to which they refuse liability, and then 2 months after returning the car they charged me another £90 in my credit card without any explanation. When I questionied it, they send me a duplicate of the first parking notice they charged me with VAT. So it looks like I am paying tice for the same parking notice (plus VAT). It's simply a joke! In total they are overcharging me £186. Customare care takes at least 3 weeks to reply to any email. 2 months after, I keep geting in touch and they have resolved nothing. They are not even giving me a formal complaint form or the name of the independent agency that deals with claims over they disastrous service.EDIT TO THIS REVIEW.They replied pretty fast to this review to aks me to DM, only to fiind out in private that they re read my case and they won't do anything other than closing the case. No explanation to why they are charging twice the same parking notice, or to why the are charging me VAT on top of a parking notice. I will go to BVRLA (British rental industry ombudsman), and ECRCS (EU rental industry ombudsman).

I had to cancel and re-book the booking for this date in order to swap the car for an automatic due to personal reasons. Over 20 days on I am still yet to receive a refund for the original booking, and the customer care centre just doesn't answer the phone.

Booking online was very easy. The person at the counter was very friendly and helpful.

Reasonable efficient when collected car on Friday, but return on Sunday at 5pm was unclear. Office closed, as expected, but wasn't sure which of the two car parks opposite to leave car in - should have been signposted or written instructions or a map provided. Cost £7.40 for overnight parking and took quite a while to pay using the automated telephone line, thankfully I had left plenty of time to catch my train. They should surely make provision for this. Will think twice before booking next time.

Very good, however the car was a similar option to that paid for and instead of a Peugeot 3008 we got an MG ZS very nice but lacked the extra space paid for an intermediate as the process is a standard or intermediate. As a family of 5 with 3 young kids visiting from New Zealand this did make it much more of a squeeze than hoped.More an FYI than a complaint.

Great. I was wary at first as the pick up office is a dodgy area but team were great and accommodating with me when I wanted to extend another 2 days. Car was tip top.

Avoid, avoid, avoid. Vehicle had a small scratch on collection, which they said was insignificant and did not mark down on the form. After drop off they charged £1000 to my credit card without any discussion. This was more than the estimated repair bill for damage that was pre-existing. They refused to answer the phone or reply to emails to discuss. Avoid.

Good hire company, but be aware to check invoice as if you do less than 100miles they automatically charge you £14.40 for refueling, which you then have to call up and request a refund for. Make me wonder how many people don't realise and they make an extra £14 off hiring a van.

Only chose Avis as the office was near to the train station in Chester, but not really impressed with the office or car selection, which was a DS3 and found it hard to understand touchscreen controls, hand brake etc. Boot would only open when engine was off, which wasn’t explained and no manual in car. Child Car seat was not acceptable for such a large and respected company as Avis. Reason given for the type offered was that the car had no isofix fittings, but found it did later, so then borrowed a friends seat and returned the Avis one before end of rental date, waiting for a refund.So will go back to previous choice of rental companies I’ve used in the past, even though they are located out of the town.

I hired a car for the weekend and it was an almost brand new Mercedes GLA, an absolutely beautiful car to drive.The collection process was good, a little more paperwork than a normal Avis as they are a franchise, but friendly, helpful and just fine.To drop the car on a Sunday when the location is closed you had to park in a 24 hour car park around the corner, it was fine, but the extra £8.20 was a bit of a pain! Maybe finding a way for people to return cars after hours would make this a 5 Star review.But i couldn't have asked for a better car and friendlier professional staff.
