Cobstone Windmill

A childhood pilgrimage must, for those of us of a certain age raised on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This, my second time...! I have every intention of returning if nearby again.The scenery is breathtaking if you are able enough to tackle the hill up from the village of Turville.Now, this is a private residence, once owned by actress Haley Mills, I believe. The owners keep it in great condition and should be applauded. If only the ramp and Grandpa Potts's lavy were present too!'Oh you, pretty, Chitty Bang Bang!'

Beautiful place very scenic and tranquil. Lovely walks into the village. Can just sit here all day with a nice picnic.

For me this Windmill is a lovely preserved item of our history, it sits on top of the Chiltern Hills,andstands out, when viewing it from the picturesque village of Turvillein the valley below. The walk fromthe village is along a footpath forabout 100 metres , then through agate to another grass footpath for about 200 metres. At the end of this, you start to climb (a very severe incline), you can go up thegrass field or up the chalk bank. When I went it was a lovely sunny day, but if it is wet, you would need walking boots, because it would be very difficult to get the grip due to the surfaces. You can see the Windmill all the way up thetrack. When arriving at the top, you are within 10 metres of it, the only slightly disappointing thing is it surrounded by a 6 foot fence, because it is in a private garden. But you can reach up above this fence to get fullsize pictures of it.The views from the top of the Chilterns, back down to the village are spectacular. This Windmill was used in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"

If you loved the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang then you will recognise this as the windmill where the world's most famous car is revealed.It's a beautiful place but no public access to see this historic site. The best you can do is see the windmill on the steep walk up the hill.

A beautiful little village and a lovely walk from the village up the hill towards the windmill. The Windmill is on private land so there is a big fence around it, best views are on the walk up.

2021 late evening visit. I was pleased to see that the Windmill is going through restoration. Well done to all those involved.

Absolutely brilliant....chitty chitty bang bang

Fantastic view down the valley and got a nice photo of the windmill from chitty chitty bang bang. The owners have put up a high fence as I expect they are fed up with sight seeing visitors

Such a shame you cannot get up close to the windmill. But it is a nice steep walk with lovely views at the top of the hill and nice views of the windmill from the village.. which features in Killing Eve now on BBC. I have visited a few times now for dog walks and to show family who come to stay with us.

Windmill in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The walk up to the windmill repays the effort. Great view over Fingast...
