Barton Hills Nature Reserve
I have been visiting this beautiful serene place for 50 plus years. It has changed slightly over the years but never ceases to thrill me each time I visit. My children have come to love the lovely rolling hills and views and insist we visit as often as possible. There's so much more I can say but suffice to say it is amazing. You need to be fit to climb the hills the hard way but there are easy ways up too. The refreshing spring has never stopped in all these years and I remember competing with cows as a boy to get at the source. The great storm of 1987 destroyed many of the trees and if you look carefully you will find the fallen trunks but the lush greenery remains. I also remember the tall dead tree stump that stood in the slight clearing near the top of the wooded area that you could pick out from the crest of the hills opposite. I have visited the reserve in all weather types and enjoyed every minute as will you if you are a true nature lover. Please remember to respect the site and take your litter home and please park responsibly as folks live in the limited parking areas.

A really lovely outdoor place to go with your whole family. Kids can run and enjoy the nature. There are load of horses, they are all very gentle but bare in mind, do not feed them. When the weather is nice, picnic is really a great activity to do! Loads of hills to climb, good exercise and family bonding time.

Amazing place, spring water, relaxing.Update February 2023: Not sure what happened there, if it's normal or not, but at our last visit we saw a lot of trees, that seemed healthy, cut down. It really made me sad and concerned. It's starting to look like a clearing rather than a little forest.

Some nice steep hills to get the heart pumping and pleasant views to ponder the meaning of life. Also some Kites kiting and sometimes Pony's and the like munching on grass.

Incredible hidden gem. There is a hidden spring with delicious, cold, and very clear and clean water. The speed is immense. The entire park is ripe for exploring, walking, exercise, and achieving peace of mind. It's free just nature and there is plenty of parking spots in the beautiful village.

As with any nature reserve, this place is beautiful if you go on a bright sunny day. We landed there on a gloomy windy day & it looked alright. We do plan to visit it again sometime. Great for those who count steps & watch weight - can walk a lot. Great for sitting with a flask of tea or a chit-chat. Great place to introspect.

A fantastic view if you are fit enough to walk up the very steep hill! In wet weather the ground is sticky/muddy as you would expect with clay so you need walking boots on. The wild horses are lovely but be aware that they will be after your sandwiches!
