Really poor.had appointment booked over the phone and a text message to confirm. When we get there , there is nothing booked. Waste of journey. Told only 1 vet available so cannot fit us in for a booster. Naughty.

My cat was poorly in August. He wasn't eating/drinking very much and suffered with chronic diarrhoea. We took him to South Wales Vets on 22nd August as his eyes had sunken and we thought he was severely dehydrated. I won't mention the vets name on here but she weighed him gave him a check over. And asked us if we would like to do full bloodwork to check for everything. And of course we said yes. She took him in the back room and came back shortly after to say he was to dehydrated to take bloods. However, all we was offered was out of hours or oralade drink and probiotics and to monitor him til the next day when we could bring him back in. Why wasn't he put on a drip at the vet there and then???Anyway, when we got home we decided to call our insurance company and get a video call to check on his symptoms as we still couldn't work out why he wasn't on a drip. Basically we did all the checks over the call and she said yes your right take him to out of hours. Then of course he was put on a drip and had to stay overnight!!! Next day we picked him up and he was given 2mg Mirtzapine to help with his appetite. Which it did really help him over the weekend. On Wednesday 30th, we took him back to South Wales vets as his appetite was going again. A different vet did his full blood work and said we should get the results back in a day or two.31st August, called up for blood tests not all had come back yet but the vet wanted me to bring him in to be checked over again so went in that day. (Saw the same vet I'd seen on 22nd) she said the bloods may not all come back til Monday and mentioned if we would like to put him on 2mg Mirtzapine again just to cover him for the weekend to build his appetite. We were not given any other option apart from to monitor him and if things worsen to take him to out of hours.Anyway! This is the part I'm so angry about... we gave our cat his '2mg' mirtzapine late afternoon. Within half hour he was trembling rocking his head back and forth crying. Eyes dilated etc so of course we phone out of hours immediately. The vet had confirmed that the vet at South wales prescribed him with 15mg mirtzapine (which is normally used on big dogs and humans) we were so worried we were gonna lose him that day. He had to have charcoal in his stomach to get rid of toxins, on drip again etc and stay over night.Of course we told South wales about it and they owned up to the fact and that there actually wasnt any 2mg mirtzapine in there cupboard and they would pay the out of hours treatment (however that should go without saying) I also sent a written complaint to say we wanted a refund of the service we received from the particular vet we saw on 22nd & 31st August but they declined and said they 'provided us with all options' and as its written in the records they provided all options that's there final say. I did take it to VCMS mediation but South wales vets declined it saying its not an appropriate way forward. Absolute joke!My cat is now with a different vet and it's really opened my eyes how kind, caring & compassionate they are. And so glad I've made the change.I just wanted to make anyone locally aware of the place as I for one would never trust them again.

We had the most pleasant vet trip to date, it was our first visit with two cats in tow which was hectic enough and Mozart is a very nervous and fidgety boy but the staff were lovely and helped so much with them. Emily and her apprentice were phenomenal there isn’t enough kind words in the dictionary to say about them both. Her apprentice (I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name) was fantastic and going to make a great vet one day ! and we left with two happy (as can be) cats and two very happy owners! thanks so much guys.

I've been going to the Newport vets for years, when I need wormer and flea treatment, I go in weigh my dog with the receptionist and they normally give us what we need. Now they have changed it that the vet needs to see them first. Absolutely pointless, why change a system that isn't broken, just putting more pressure on the vet. Wasting owners time when they could pop into pets at home and be quicker.

This a lovely veterinary practice. The staff are all so caring and make each pet feel comfortable and relaxed before they are examined. This makes me less anxious when visiting and makes it a pleasurable visit for all concerned. They listen to what you have to say, advice you but are not forceful when recommending treatments. This is really reassuring as my dogs are getting on for 10 and 12 years old. I've had a number of different vets over the years but the staff here are the best. It is the only practice I've been too where my dogs do not start shaking when they see the building. Thanks

When phoned about my pets consultation I was told the total was £100, I repeated this back to the person and asked what for. I was told 2 items and consultation fee. I agreed to that payment and made it. But... when my dog got home he had 3 items and my banking shows a total of £182.79 was taken from my account by these people. I phone this morning and was called a liar by that same member of staff and refused a senior member of staff. I called back and someone else picked up I was refused a senior member of staff again and then she tried to tell me they don't tell prices over the phone. Huge lie of course because they couldn't get one without telling me, the person that took him in for me had no phone or payment method on him. I've made a formal complaint but doubt they care or will just say I'm lying. I even asked about calls being recorded for training and monitoring purposes to be told they don't do that ... I wonder why ...

I took my cat to the Newport branch on Friday, the vet was very through and now Sooty is booked in for a dental tomorrow. Update: The price for treatment was rather expensive all in has cost me over £900.00, however I don't find them dearer than other vets in Newport and they let me know the price in advance so there were no suprisies, and the veterinary nurses in Risca were lovely too.

South Wales Vets are very, very good, they’re thorough, efficient, and the they are really lovely people. However, their fees are phenomenally high. I’ve been twice in three months, both bills were almost £400.00.The fees for blood tests are extremely high, at least £150.00 more than I’ve paid in London.I would STRONGLY advise you to have a thorough discussion on the charges prior to taking your pet to this vet.The bill attached below is for ONE cat with an under active Thyroid.Almost £400.00 !!I don’t think I can afford to go back there, as much as I like this vet.
