Always a nice venue. Really helpful, friendly staff. On a wider note, during the festival, it would be nice if it was clearer about where you can and can't take drinks, as there are restrictions. But that is licensing and nothing to do with the venue itself. Really enjoyed the shows we went to. Recommended

Perfect experience at Ed Fringe 2023 & visiting the student union debating room to see 4* comedian Jon Culshaw and on my first night there was Late n Live with various comedians with material from their shows.

A great space for live performances during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Went there during the Fringe for a show. The place is beautiful, and the rooms (despite being quite small) are nice. The way to the top floor through the stairs is great and looks like being in the inside of a castle!

Attended this years Fringe 2018. Great spot to drink and chill out. They also have a good selection of fringe events to watch. Definitely recommend Thrones: The Musical and Spontaneous Potter!

Saw Jon Culshaw in Gilded Balloon Teviot Debating Hall - the show itself was five star: Jon is such a talented professional! However the 1 star rating is for the venue itself. We were completely crammed in and packed as tightly as possibly - very uncomfortable and boiling hot. But more importantly - there should have been an extra aisle down both sides (instead of only one down the middle), as I dread to think what would happen in a fire. People would no doubt panic and many would be trampled - there was an elderly wheelchair user who I don’t think would stand a chance. Took forever for us to all file out at the end - seems like they value extra seats over safety. Would avoid this venue if you have claustrophobia - shame as the show was excellent!

Went here for Bailey J Mill’s fringe drag performance. Absolutely amazing venue with a beer garden and lots of different areas for different fringe shows. Definitely recommend this place especially during the fringe as not just a place to see shows but to have a sit down and a drink.

At this rate I’m reviewing everything I touch. I did a month of shows at the Gilded balloon and can confirm it’s an amazing place! The staff were a delight, the space had a warm and friendly feel to it which is what my life lacked until now. I will be back for sure!

Worst venue I have ever been to!!Being an autistic person and my sister has ADHD, the below list was a massive struggle for us and it was a very overwhelming experience. Please see below a list of occurrences that happened during our visit that I believe to be unacceptable and very inconvenient.1. We arrived at the venue at 5.45pm and went inside the venue to enquire where we were meant to be. We spoke to a member of staff and she said that a queue is forming outside with a person holding a sign. She said we could be escorted into the venue around 6.15 or 6.30. We weren't escorted into the venue until 7pm! In which it said on the tickets the performance was about to start. Me and my sister do not mind waiting at all, however it was very misleading. I felt the whole thing was very unorganised and very confusing to find out where we needed to go.2. MAIN COMPLAINT OCCURENCE. Me and my sister had waited for an hour and a half to see Daz Black (he is one of our heroes) and when we were escorted into the venue at 7pm, we were very annoyed to find out that the people at the front of the queue, were being seated and the back and then people coming in behind us were to fill up the seats going forward. I have never been to a gig where this is acceptable, the reason people get there early is to try and get a decent seat. Not to be put at the back. From talking to others sat around us, this was the same opinion. In front of us there were 3 young kids who were nearly in tears, them being only little, they could barely see. I thought this being doing by the staff was highly unfair and being autistic and my sister having ADHD, this was a very overwhelming situation and we struggled to enjoy the evening due to this reason. Shocking!I understand that disabled individuals were to be seated at the front which is totally understandable, but I think your staff need to understand why people would be at the front of the queue... to try and get a decent view and morally it is fairer than people turning up last minute. If we knew we would get closer to the front by just being later, we would have done that.3. We were escorted into the venue and sat down as described above. However the performance started within 5 minutes of everyone being properly sat down. If we had been escorted in when we were told, this would have given people time to have a toilet break and/or time to get a drink. I have never been to a gig where they did not give people time to settle before the performance started. In conclusion to all of the above, I fail to see in the future that we will be returning to the venue, if they continue this ridiculous charade of organisation and treatment of their visitors. Baring in mind we had travelled from Newcastle to have been there and we found the whole experience very disappointing.

Went to see Eden sher - I was in a sitcom. Amazing show, but air conditioning not working and performer nearly overcome with heat (even tho she handed out flyer fans" to everyone) and couple of audience members had to leave. So no issues with show but venue conditions really poor."
