Townfoot Cottage, Elterwater, Ambleside

Just spent a wonderful five days at Townsfoot Cottage. Accommodation was perfectly suited in terms of location for hill walking and sight seeing. The property is fitted with everything you could possibly need to enable a great stay. In short, clean, warm, luxurious and spacious for up to four people. Highly recommended.

Townfoot Cottage is beautiful, tastefully furnished, and in a stunning location. It is so homely I didn’t want to leave! It was lovely to light the log burner in the evening. We did some wonderful walks directly from the cottage, and having the Britannia Inn so close for a few drinks and great food after a long walk was a real bonus! We will definitely be returning.

Booked for a week as a couple and much enjoyed our stay. Elterwater is a brilliant place, the cottage was quiet and sheep wandering up and down outside helped the relaxed atmosphere - and the pub is just 200yds away! The little shop at Chapel Stile up the road is remarkably well stocked.The kitchen is well stocked too with a full range of cooking utensils. The beds are comfy and the water is hot!The owner is courteous and highly supportive and he returned our deposit promptly. What's not to like?

We enjoyed our stay at Townfoot Cottage, Elterwater,in this lovely part of the Lake District.The property was very well equipped,cosy and comfortable,and we would happily return,not least because of our most obliging host.

We had a fantastic stay at this cottage. It was warm, clean and had everything needed to make a very comfortable stay. Set in fantastic surroundings. Alun was very friendly and helpful. Thank you for a fab stay! Would recommend to everyone and definitely hope to return in the near future.

responding to the owners remarks to my review of this property, I was fully aware of the limitations mentioned ie., car parking / lack of outside space, and my rating was based on this knowledge before I visited. If there had been other properties available for this week , I would have discounted Townfoot Cottage for those reasons. There are other points which affect my rating, such as no phone signal in and close by the property, for which the owner says there is a phone box in the village, but this has no phone in it. A lack of coffee table or nest of tables in the lounge, these items would improve the rating. There was no way of knowing, inadvance, about the large vehicles which pass the cottage, these set off car alarms at certain times. If people do not worry about these facts, then the cottage is an ideal comfortable base for exploring this part of the lake district

We had a great stay in Townfoot cottage, the cottage itself is warm and cosy and the location is brilliant! There is a great pub and cafe just a 2 minute walk down the road, and the scenery is amazing (and is a nice distance from Ambleside, or if you want to walk to Grasmere). Alun was very helpful and prompt in responding to texts/emails and any questions we had while there, so we couldn't have asked for more. Would definitely recommend to friends and family, and will be planning another trip back some point next year.

Great cottage in a brilliant village location. Everything you need is provided, parking right outside and a pub just down the road! Alun kept in touch from booking to arriving and was happy to answer any questions. Definitely recommend for a peaceful break in a beautiful place ☺️

Had a brilliant week at Townfoot Cottage, Elterwater. The cottage was perfect for our requirements, very warm and welcoming, the kitchen was fully stocked and had everything we needed. The shower was amazing and the bedrooms very comfortable.We had a minor issue with some of the electricity supply one evening and Alun ensured this was put right first thing the following morning, could not have asked for any better service.The area is so beautiful, fantastic location for a base. We had meals in the Britannia Inn, Wainwrights and the Ambleside Inn all served great food.We will definitely return as soon as we can.

Townfoot cottage is a fantastic getaway in Elterwater its so peaceful and many walks to do each day literally from the front door,Wonderful coffee shop around the corner & the Brittania Inn, also at far side of Elterwater 15 min walk Chesters is a great coffee stop too Local shop also in walking distance along the riverside in Chapel StileThe cottage is cosy & comfortable and has all facilities at a high standard it’s perfect for an idyllic getaway in the Lakes Great communication also with the owner.We Highly recommend
