The Gym is okay and all but classes should have their dedicated rooms. They take away weights and other equipment your CURRENTLY using (even though you got there first and they can see you are on it!) I mean, How rude! so they can use it for they’re classes.Gym instructor should be taught manners here! What a disgrace!

Newly refurbished gym with a big enough car park. All equipment looks & feels new and everything is working. Nice & cool inside with good air-conditioning. The facilities are very clean. It is technologically advanced as the workout can be tracked via a mobile phone app by scanning the bar-codes on each station. The gym also offers classes with instructor as well as virtual classes. The staff is very friendly. The cafe is adequate with a good menu. It gets busy at times but not too over crowded. The pool is big enough and has a couple of dedicated lanes to swim lengths and a larger general area. No area is sectioned off for lessons, which makes a big difference vs. most other pools. It has a sauna, Jacuzzi and a steam room too.Overall, it is a pleasant gym for all levels with a nice pool

Shocking gym,Lack of equipment & dumbbells means no access to gym equipment during busy hours, and due to its poor layout the gym vary rarely feels quiet, also the ratio of treadmills to free weights is just silly, no one will ever use that many treadmills. The price of the gym for the facilities is bad, looks dated, gym equipment is dated and for the luxury price you pay to go this gym you would be better off going to an alternative gym, far better more luxury gym options in the area. And last but certainly not least, the contract and how they tie you into it or more like concave you into. Good luck cancelling your membership here once you realize how terrible this gym is. The staff will bombarde you weekly with calls texts emails saying how your membership will continue to add credit until it is paid off, it’s scandalous, I have a medical condition and once I providedA medical evaluation form from my GP (unbelievable really) they then stopped contacting me.Do not go to this gym, the phrase mutton dressed as lamb comes to mind but this gym is honestly just mutton dressed as a mutton, it has given up on itself.

For 10yrs had a full peak membership here because-great staff, exceptionally clean, usually use the gym without waiting for free machines.Only gripe-needs to go back to pre covid opening and stay open until 10pm at weekends not 8pm as far too early! Plus in prep to close- everything gets switched off at 7.30pm

Pros:-The pool is lovely most of the time.-The changing areas are dimly lit and clean with lots of hairdryers and mirrors and a tv for the news.-The cafe area is modern and Starbucks drinks are available.Cons:-The gym has a small weights area because half the room is taken up by about 15 treadmills, 10 cross trainers, 5 stair masters and 8 bikes. Which wouldn’t be an issue, except no one ever uses half that many. The weights station is tiny because there is barely any space. There are also another 20odd bikes in the next room, so it’s just very poorly designed.-There are limited machines. I can never use some of them because blokes are queuing up, desperate to do pull-ups and pull downs. A bench is almost impossible to get, since there are only 3.-Sweaty men get straight into the pool from the sauna and steam room without showering, which is disgusting. There’s a sign that says please shower but it’s not enforced so people just throw their sweaty bodies in without any consideration.-The showers are outdated and many are faulty; some heads spurt water out the sides, some temperature dials won’t turn and there’s mould in a lot of the corners and cracks.-Very expensive. The memebership itself is £50+ and the prices in the cafe and equipment shop are steep.-Access is only by wristband. If you forget your band you have to pay. It seems like a money gathering technique because they have an app that they could choose to function as an entry pass but it doesn’t.Basically, there needs to be more variety in the memberships to allow for cheaper prices. It’s the only local gym that has a pool (excluding the public pool, which has children everywhere and is freezing cold) but if it wasn’t for the pool then I would go elsewhere because the price is just too high for the gym quality. There’s a real market around Skem/Wigan/Ormskirk for an affordable gym with a pool that isn’t freezing. If Bannatynes did a swimming only membership or a gym membership without classes or PT for a lot cheaper and cleaned up their showers then more people would join imo. I don’t use the gym because it’s always being hogged and there are no duplicate machines and I don’t book PTs for the same reason - where would we find the space or free machines? Classes I’ve attended a couple of times but I’m not a big fan, so it’s a waste of money for me and it stops me encouraging others to join.

Bannatynes Gym in Skelmersdale has been here for around 14 years. This Gym has around 3,000 members and at times it can get busy. The gym space and class space is situated on the 1st floor and a lift is available for those who need it.Changing rooms, sunbeds, treatment rooms, the pool, steam room and sauna are all on the ground floor.Due to its age, some areas of the gym are tired looking, including equipment and fittings. The reception space was recently refurbished, removing the carpet and sofas and replacing them with vinyl flooring and plastic chairs giving it a soulless college canteen feel. Some of the classes are virtual, where the instructor is on a screen and not in the room. The pool can get busy, and sometimes classes are run in the pool.Parking is available and free and there are charge points for EVs

Popped into Bannatyne to enquire about membership and consessions. I was informed of all products and services suitable for my needs and have happily signed up for the gym. 5 stars to Stewart who put my mind at ease and made me feel important and I even had a complementary cup of coffee as we chatted. I look forward to restarting my fitness after a few years of poor health.

It's a welcoming club with a good mixture of classes, gym and swimming. However, the changing rooms and showers could do with a refurb, they're always clean but they look tired and in need of some TLC.
