Oscar's Wine Bar & Bistro

The food was fantastic, don't be fooled thinking that a cajun chicken salad is a light bite.Quality was excellent, staff were very friendly when serving but somewhat inattentive, nobody checked that the food was fine, I asked for a drink when my food came, then asked at the bar 10ish minutes later. It came after I had finished my meal after I had concluded that it was not coming.Small observations but in a nice pub style bistro on an early afternoon with only a few covers in, worth mentioning.We will, however, be back.

The food tasted good but was cold, service was shocking!Orderd our food before new tables had sat down and they still got their good before us, very slow service, there is a baord explaining that food can take uo to 45mins, our food took over an hour and a half. The staff omitted an entire meal from our table of 4! Not much of an apology nor communication with us, was made to feel like we was the inconvenience, after the table had finished eating the missing meal came out after being paraded around the restaurant because the staff didn't know what table it belonged to, resulting in extremely late and cold food! Also requested condiments that never came.

Place was fairly busy, so I guess you have to show a little leeway, but we came in and waited for what seemed like a lifetime before anyone even acknowledged our existence. We almost had to stand in front of one of the staff in order to get them to tell us if we could sit down. They then went to ask the lady behind the bar for her opinion of that. Eventually, they decided that we could sit at the table in the middle of the room, pulling two of the four free 4 seater tables together for our party of 5 people. We then sat for over 20 minutes without being asked or offered anything. Eventually, my wife got up and took 5 menus from the stack near the door, so we could at least be ready with our order when the waiting staff got around to seeing us. We placed our drinks order, which was subsequently messed up but later corrected, then we placed our food order, which again, took a long while to arrive, but to be fair to the chef, when the food arrived, we were pleasantly surprised. All of our food (about 3 or 4 different choices) were delicious, piping hot and very well presented. Absolutely full marks to the chef for producing such great food in a place where clearly everyone else just isn't in the right job. I travel a lot and eat in a very wide variety of establishments but it's not difficult to please me, I don't expect miracles. We had some German friends with us and I was actually embarrassed to show them that That level of customer service actually exists in the UK. Thank god the food was good, or I'd have been looking for a substantial discount on the bill. The place itself looks nice, I just hope whoever manages this place reads this and takes some action that will bring the customer service up to the level one could expect from a location in the centre of a City like York and that a chef such as they have deserves to serve his food.

Herendous dining experience, certainly not dog friendly, possibly the worst experience you could get in a resteraunt.Having emailed to make sure they were dog friendly, called in the afternoon to to check it out, we turned up at 6pm as per our booking to be told our dog was not welcome.Don't say your dog friendly when your clearly not.Please avoid at all costs much better places in York.

Great food, great service and great price.Not much more you could ask for?!Would happily come back again if I were to return!

Great staff, terrible food.Chicken burgers with the gravy and onion rings are totally bland and the chicken I assume is some mass bought frozen chicken rubbish, a bit slimy in texture,not good, not good at allKids fish fingers...avoid, it's formed fish, our little one wouldn't touch them

Went here on a Saturday at around 13.00. Wasn't overly busy. Got served by Frankie who was lovely... Food and service 10/10. I'll let the photos do the talking.... Total bill for three people, including 3 x mains, 3 x drinks 3 x desserts was £65.00. I thoroughly recommend the vegetarian chilli.

Shocking service. Arrived at 17:10Didn’t get our food until 18:10 got our starter with our mains which we didn’t ask for but food was amaze but wouldn’t return as the service was shocking and we ordered basic food and took nearly a hour to arrive. Not impressed

Such a lovely restaurant in York and the food is always amazing no matter what we order...it was only quiet on Tuesday when we went and the service was a bit slow especially when we asked for the bill but food makes up for it! I live in York but will always bring visiting friends here and always recommend here :) they also do blue light discount even on a weekend :)

Embarrassingly poor.Arrived shortly after opening, told food would be 30 minutes.2 consecutive pints of Blue Moon returned with barely an acknowledgment of the fault, despite them being visibly not right! (Minor fact but no orange either but served in a glass that says it should be!)50 minutes later, no food despite it just been halloumi fries, garlic bread and wings so no real prep needed but 3 tables around us, who arrived after us, all being served similar.Told them we needed to leave, no apology, just told they were going to be starting the order soon.Oscar’s used to be our favourite quirky place to eat in York but sadly it’s now more like a disappointing chain restaurant.Sadly not worth a visit as it offers no more than much more efficient places in York!
