Great Fen
Spent a really great afternoon at the Great Fen Countryside Centre. The activities laid on by the staff and volunteers was fun and engaging for our two daughters of 2 and 7yrs. Our eldest particularly enjoyed the net sweeping catching and identifying different insects, bugs and spiders. The main nature reserve is just a short drive further down the drove and has some fantastic wildlife to observe.

Very quiet and peaceful. We heard and saw a lot of birds and animals. We heard a fox but didn't see it. Well kept and informative.I saw a brown dragon fly and lots of other insects. A new covered seating viewing platform has been constructed. Some pictures do not do justice to this beautiful place.

Great Fen
Not a great deal there, seems to be geared to visits by school groups. A small number of short walks nearby but no more than a couple of km in total as far as I could find. Wood Walton Nature Reserve is a little further down the same road, it looks more extensive for walking but didn't get to explore as dogs are not allowed.

My relatives lived at common farm down Chapel road Ramsey Heights,, (The Lilley Family) back in the 70's and 80's.,I can say that most of the pictures you see are of the Woodwalton Nature Reserve ? Right at the bottom of Chapel Road and over the Dike on the wooden bridge. Woodwalton fen Nature Reserve is Not this new great fen . Project ! Ramsey heights Nature reserve is owned by the RSPB ? and access is just after turning onto chapel Road off the main road.Over 50 years Woodwalton Fen and Ramsey Heights Nature Reserve was was Created, Ramsey heights nature reserve was created from the old Brickwork and Tile works. Saddly the Brick Works Houses that stood further down Chapel Road were Demolished in the late70s ? But the wide cannal section and boat turning Basin still Existed

This is the future, hopefully. A new, very large reserve with plenty of variety. It shows what can be done with agriculture land reverting back to nature. It can be very peaceful and there is entry of interesting things to see, including the lowest point in the UK.
