(2023/08/09)Got a chance of trying their Kebab, £4.80 for a Mixed Kebab Wrap. Just like their Cheese Burger, nothing was special about the taste. Though the quality was average, the portion was huge so worth the price. If you are picky about Kebab, better avoid to save your curiosity. Otherwise, go ahead and it should be okay. Their Curry Sauce and Gravy are very good, even better with the Chips.(2023/07/26)Tried some other items, so far the best ones for me are Fish and Pie. Their Cheese Burger is basically, a simple Cheese Burger. Bun, cheese, patty and that's it. Unless you really want a burger, do pick up some other items for your own sake. Trust me, the Pie and Chips deal is much better than the Cheese Burger and Chips deal. Ordered a Small Cod alone, still tasted good but as its name suggested it was really small considering the amount of crispy batter.(2023/07/07)This restaurant was opened in May, a fairly new one. Although the staff showed some poker faces, the food was overall good during my first visit.The chips were a little bit soggy. Apart from that, enjoyable Fish and Chips. Also ordered a Scallop, a Tinned Roe and a Large Battered Sausage. Did not like the sausage, the rest were fine. Please note none of Curry Sauce, Mushy Peas or Gravy was included in the Fish and Chips set. But a bunch of different sauces were provided for free including Ketchup, Mayo, Sweet Chilli, BBQ, Yogurt Mint and etc. And of course, Salt and Vinegar were available.Because it is a Fish and Chips restaurant, do think twice before ordering some risky items. Will come back later to try out some other items.

£11.50 for 2 small cods & chips because “we dont have large.”This is what I was served. 1 mega sized fish finger.100% not worth anything, avoid.The taste is decent but seriously WHAT IS THIS!

Absolute rip off. I opted for a cheeseburger and chips special which included a sauce I.e curry sauce, gravy etc, the server refused this until I had to show him their own sign that a sauce was indeed included. They still ignored that though and provided me with chips that were undercooked and potential to chip your teeth and a cheeseburger you wouldn’t feed to your dog. Not that I’d want to eat it, but as you can see, portion size is shocking too. £5.50 for a ‘special’ they deliberately ignored, pic says it all. Rip off for other items too, I used to miss having a chippy in JQ but I’d rather order in after trying this shambles

Went for the Pie, Chips and Sauce deal. Pie was very good - nice pastry and meaty filling (Chicken and Mushroom). The chips were thick hand cut and very tasty. I like chips a little more browned than they were but would eat more. Mushy peas were hot and good consistency. Service was very friendly and the shop itself is very clean and has a few tables and bar seating if you want to eat in.Hope this place does well as we have needed a good chippy in the JQ for years! Will be back to try the fish and chips.Edit: tried the Fish & Chips. Excellent. Best in city centre.

Charged me £8.50 for small fish and chips. Clearly they do not know about chips. Or they would never have served me those. And a large fish finger type fish. Definitely will not be going again. I am so disappointed.

I recently had the pleasure of trying Captain John's for the first time, and I must say it has become my go-to spot for fish and chips in Birmingham. While I didn't try the fish this time, the other items I ordered were simply outstanding.Let's start with the star of the show—the chips. They were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The portion size was generous, and they were so moreish that I couldn't stop munching on them. Personally, I prefer my chips a bit saltier, but that's a minor preference that can easily be addressed.Now, let's talk about the battered sausage. It was absolutely fantastic! The batter had a lovely golden color, and it was crispy and flavorful. The sausage itself was juicy and tender, making for a delightful combination. I highly recommend trying it if you haven't already.Beyond the food, the customer service at Captain John's was exceptional. The staff members were friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They took the time to ensure that my order was correct and that I had everything I needed. It's always a pleasure to be greeted with a smile, and they certainly delivered on that front.

Having not had Fish & Chips for ages, I thought i'd pop over and give Captain John's a go. Opted for large chips, large cod and large mushypeas (yes, i was hungry!!) Portion sizes were perfect and the chips and cod was cooked fresh to order. Perfectly done and not greasy!!I can see a few bad reviews on here but my own experience was brilliant. Great food and great service

Had a large fish and chips and a small fish and chips. To be honest, they were almost the same size (on the smaller side). Chips:Fish ratio very high just like most chip shops.The taste itself of the fish was good. Wasn’t oily and batter was nice and crispy. Curry sauce was good as well and had a nice consistency.
