Changed since new ownership. Its always been a bit more expensive but now the prices have just got silly (it's no wonder the owner took down the boards displaying them). £29.09/kg for a spare rib roast, this time last year it was almost £6/kg cheaper, you can see the old prices on their Facebook page. Similar crazy price hikes on lamb as well. Real shame.

We went and got a bit of brisket to smoke. The butchers prepared a big piece with fat on. It's the best brisket my husband's ever made - we'll be back!

I have consistently used this butchers for over 45years. Always enjoyed excellent service, banter and produce, however, having just sampled one of their individual steak pies, which were always delicious, this one wasn’t.Far, far too much dry pastry and very little actual meat. A couple of pieces and quite a lot of mush.Tremendously disappointed.

Proper butchers! Stunning meat! Never once found grizzle or fat in the steak pie which are the best in Edinburgh! Only thing to remember is make extra gravy or buy a pot of theirs. Sausages are lovely also. If you’ve only ever had supermarket bacon then truly you should try fresh cut non water pumped bacon from this butcher as so tasty!!! They make their own mince pies which are perfect and again always decently filled and NEVER grizzly!!!Proper butcher!!!

Very helpful and kind. Though they were unable to procure a whole turkey for me, they followed through with a beautiful crown of breast meat that was honestly better than any whole turkey I've had before. I'll definitely be ordering one again for Christmas!Also, their steak pies and mince pies are to die for, absolutely worth stopping in for one.

Mathiesons is a great butcher - friendly service and the meat tastes so much better than the supermarkets (I can vouch this is true vs. 4 of the big supermarkets). I buy the whole chicken or the beef shoulder which they cut up for me - both amazing! Thank you
