An absolute gem. We have eaten here umpteen times. Delicious , very reasonably priced food in a lovely setting. Interesting menu changes regularly, with daily specials. Portions are generous. Very good about accommodating allergies or tweaking dishes. Free 2 hour parking outside until 8pm on Watlington St, or very easy to walk from the town centre or Queens Road Car park if you're not a lucky local.

I wish I had reviewed this place during my time as a food critique. The Lyndhurst combines a traditional atmosphere with discreet service and warm welcome to all the family. The chef judges with a sophisticated but non-judgemental hand what seasonal pleasures are on offer and prepares all with a delicate touch. From fish and chips to the lightest gnocchi, or umptious venison scorched eggs chef's game is on point. None of the faff but all of the delight of Michelin Star dining. I wish chef thought a class.

What an amazing find! Catered well for the vegan roast... Best vegan roast I had in a while! One of our party had the roast beef and again comments on the high quality. The portion sizes were generous and the service was great. Can not recommend enough!

I was pleasantly surprised by the culinary delights that were served. The food was nothing short of luscious, bursting with vibrant flavors that truly tantalized my taste buds.Although the menu was not extensive, it certainly did not lack in variety. I found myself delighting in many dishes that were skillfully prepared with the fresh fish and seafood. The Karaage chicken was an impeccable choice for an appetizer or as a satisfying option to enjoy between courses. As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of Mexican cuisine, I was skeptical when I saw the Al Pastor taco on the menu, but upon trying it, I must admit that it was surprisingly authentic in taste and presentation. The Hake with mussels was another culinary masterpiece. The dish was cooked to perfection and accompanied by a sauce that was both flavorful and well-balanced.Dessert did not disappoint either, as the strawberry tart was an exquisite finale to an already remarkable meal. The service provided by the staff was impeccable, and the selection of beverages was impressive. In conclusion, this establishment is without a doubt a must-visit destination for anyone who desires delicous food

Went in for lunch. We ordered padron which we really enjoyed. The small plate of Argentinian prawns was ok nothing special in taste to be honest it’s not something I wouldLike to have again. My husband order fish and chips which was ok.I ordered the monkfish tacos. It was well presented. Monk fish was fried in a batter, oily and very salty. I just couldn’t eat it. I asked the staff who was very friendly and helpful, if it was meant to be salty. After asking the kitchen staff and came and said no. He offered me another dish but I refused as food was taking longer to come out and I was running late for work. He gave me a refund which I appreciated. Sorry food is not what I was expecting.I wouldn’t recommend this dish to anyone to be honest. Not worth price and the qualityReplying to your response:Firstly if I’m Readings answer to Grace Kent you’re Readings answer to Basil Fawlty. There’s no ‘pattern’ I just leave reviews like other people. If the foods good I leave a good review, if bad then a bad one. Your service was good so I said as such. What’s your point? If you’ve studied my profile and are that intrigued by me you’ll see that I leave many stars, not just one for many places. So you’re a liar. Do you also want my blood group to or my date of birth BTW?What does it matter whether we order at the bar or table? Why even mention this? What’s your point? So if I’d ordered my food at the bar it would have been less salty? So the nearer the bar the less saltier. So perhaps your chef wasn’t informed? because I did actually order at the bar, so he didn’t need to put the Salt table orderers obviously get.On the matter if Sriracha? Again what’s your point? What does Sriracha have to do with it? It cannot explain the extreme salt because Sriracha isn’t salt it’s chilli sauce. And it’s nothing to do with you how much of it we wanted. What has it got to do with the food being salty. It’s a weird way for trying to use damage control. The Sriracha was weak anyway which is why we probably needed so much. In fact yogurt is more spicy. On the monkfish - it was salty, in fact so salty it couldn’t be eaten. I’m surprised your staff also tried it, which says a lot about your restaurants hygiene if they’re happy to eat off other people’s plates, but to say it wasn’t salty is another lie. My husband actually enjoyed his food and said as much. He is not biased and not the kind of person to say something just to please me. But he tried some and said it was extremely salty. I’m not saying all your dishes are this way, perhaps more salt was used this time, I don’t know, but it was extremely salty to the point I just couldn’t eat it. To say ‘I made such a fuss’ is not only rude but another lie.How dare you insult me, I ate 1 whole Monk fish, of course I did. I was like to know it was salty if I did not eat it? I did not eat the whole plate of monkfish did I? So again what’s your point? If you looked on your camera we never made ‘a fuss’ I just said it was salty. I didn’t even ask for a refund, it was kindly offered. The only fuss being made is your desperation at damage control, which, for people reading, is as shoddy as the monkfish. Also, I never complained about the time it took to be served, I just said I couldn’t wait for another dish as it would take too long ‘as I was in a hurry.’ Again your damage control attempt is so pathetically amateurish you’ve just admitted yourself that your food takes longer to arrive than other restaurants. In fact I’mHappy to wait a little longer as I prefer freshly cooked food. So an own goal there. And lastly there’s no agenda. It’s just a review. Nobody is out to harm your reputation and nobody is monitoring you. Calm down, there’s no agenda. It’s just a review. You’ll get over it, I promise. And no, I’m not ‘gracing you’ with my custom again. Your rudeness has put paid to that. I’d rather buy a cheese sandwich from Tesco and sit by the river in the rain than ‘grace’ you with another wasted visit.

We recently held an event at the Lyndhurst with family and friends. The team were excellent working with us to provide a menu that fit all our guests (vegan, gluten free, kids) and gave a great rate for exclusive hire of the pub. The changing menu is always good and I’d really recommend them!
