Youth Action Theatre

I went to explore YAT to develop my stage craft for musical performance. I attended pretty much all their free drama sessions after work at Collis and ended up acting in a small role in one of their plays - which I appreciate.It’s a good opportunity to gain experience if you are a youngster. However, for me, if you are looking to become more confident and less self conscious it’s not really an environment for you. There’s a core of regular actors who are doing it for genuine passion and friendship. But you then get a group of other kids/teens etc who are deeply afflicted with insecurity and desperation to be centre of attention. I guess that’s acting for you.It’s a charitable organisation. And, not many do this to get young people a chance to develop and gain experience in acting. So I do not want to dissuade anyone. But go into this arena with thick skin and be fearless ignoring those who have nothing worthwhile to say to you. Give this a go for the beneficial experience of stage performance and making new friends.
