Will live forever in my memory as the place, in 2007, where I went through the lights near the end of the runway at 200.08 mph on my Suzuki Hayabusa turbo. OK, so slower than an A10....lol.

I was stationed at RAF Woodbridge as the base weather station commander, from 1977 to 1981. I was there during the Left at East Gate UFO incident, and knew Lt. Col. Halt quite well. It was a small NATO base, after all. We saw lights off the east end of runway for MONTHS, prior to the UFO sighting. I have stories. Many stories, and I am under some cautions as to which ones I am able to share.

If you're interested in Cold War history or ufology, than MoD Woodbridge is essential visiting, even if the main base is closed to the public. There is footpath access along both sides of the base & a public road at the East end of the main runway, allowing for incredibly close views into what was one of the foremost frontline USAF airbases during the Cold War. Controversy still remains as to the retaliatory status of USAF Woodbridge in regards to nuclear weapons. The bunkers at the West end of the base are clearly visible & fit the design of those used by American forces to store nuclear warheads. Even more incredible, the aircraft hangars at the East end of the base are even closer to the perimeter fence & easily photographed. It's almost unbelievable that in previous decades, someone could quite legally have lingered so closely to A10 'tankbusters' being loaded with nuclear missiles set for service elsewhere in Warsaw Pact threatened, mainland Europe. Both the East & West end of the airbase were given close scrutiny by an unidentified low 'flying' object for 2 nights in the last week of 1980. Whatever it was & where it came from still raises endless controversy & conspiracies. The so-called 'Rendlesham Forest UFO' sighting & activity, was for the most part, centred between both ends of Woodbridge airbase. Whether it was alien technology, American secret technology testing, or Russian surveillance of USAF nuclear weapons, is a subject set to persist for decades to come...

I was from a small town in Ohio, and in 1985 I was 18 yrs old and was in the US Air Force stationed at RAF Bentwaters and spent some time at RAF Woodbridge also. I was very lucky and grateful to be in the right place at the right time and cherish my time in the UK!
