Below I'm going to have a very long and detailed review, but in case you don't want to read that, here's a shorter review with less detail: I would NOT recommend staying here because it is disgusting, potentially has bedbugs, is very deceiving from the pictures online, and has management that is very rude and unresponsive.Long Review:Now get ready for a long detailed review about our experience there. Again, I would NOT recommend staying here. Why? We had a group of 14 and our short experience was miserable. When we got there we quickly realized that the pictures online were nothing like what they are in reality. We were willing to put up with it because we had paid and knew we'd only be there for a short time, but it was not ideal because we felt like we had been deceived in some way. It was soon after we got there that we started to notice some problems. First, some of the girls in our group noticed mold in the showers and their room wasn't even cleaned before they got in it (lots of dust and some dead bugs around). What really worried our group too was that in the common room area of the hostel was a fish tank that was literally black and brown because of all the mold growing inside it. It was clear they didn't really care about hygiene in any capacity. The final straw was when one of the girls in our group noticed dark spots on her comforter, a very clear sign of bedbugs. At this point we realized it would be best if we left because we didn't want to risk all getting bedbugs since we were all close together in tightly packed rooms (and also we couldn't run the risk of bringing them back to the places we were staying afterwards). After we left we got in touch with the management to ask for a refund (we said we'd pay for that first night) because of the conditions of the rooms, and most everything mentioned above. The manager continually blew off our calls, and even when we were told he'd call us, it never happened. In the end the management refused to give us even a partial refund. We explained the situation about the bed bugs and he told us there use to be bedbugs but we dealt with them

I stayed at Hostel Connect for a few nights while doing research in Derry for my post-grad degree. The facilities were great - very clean, comfy beds, good common room and a good kitchen. Breakfast is included in the room price and is a good range of cereal, breads and fruit. There's a tesco across the road and lots of cafes, bakeries and shops nearby for other food. It's within short walking distance of most tourist attractions too. I was amazed at the price, and would happily stay there again in future. My only criticism was that it was a bit cold at times, but that was because of a cold snap outside, and there were electric heaters provided so it wasn't too bad - just bring a good jumper if there's cold weather expected. Highly recommend for a cheap and cheerful stay in Derry!

DON'T BOOK AT THIS PLACE, it is shut down, IT DOES NOT EXIST. We got there with a booking and there was no one, tried calling them and nobody answered. We had the poorest experience in our lifes just because Hotels.com still sells rooms from this place.5 months later and I am still claiming and waiting for my refund, this is surreal.

Great hostel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was warm enough, the shower too. The bed was OK. The kitchen is well equipped. The cleanness in general was ok. There is a huge living room with lots of movies. The only negative thing was that there weren't pulg in my room.

I had three nights accommodation at this hostel but I wish I had booked elsewhere. In more than three months of travelling and staying in hostels I have never experienced bedbugs...until I got here. As soon as I realised I had several bites on my body, I told the 'volunteers' at the reception desk. They let me use the laundry facilities for free to clean my clothes, but they didn't clean the bunk bed I was sleeping on, and seemed somewhat clueless about how to deal with the problem. When I left the hostel I informed a different volunteer on duty again to be sure more people knew about the bedbugs in the dormitory room and I sincerely hope they treated the issue more seriously after I left. Still, I recommend you book your accommodation elsewhere.

Owner was extremely friendly, along with the receptionist. We were upgraded from a bigger room to a smaller room since the availability was open. Rooms are nice and clean. Very happy!

Main gripe:I dislike being overcharged. I paid £1.50 to book online via Hostel Connect’s own website - and it was not deducted from my room charge. This fee represents an extra 11% on my stay. No where during the checkout process is this expressly indicated.Entrance:Exterior entrance door intercom speaker is located well above eye level and is barely audible, which is a rather annoying way to have to start your stay with the hostel.Check-in:Check-in process was standard. The desk staff that I encountered was nice and courteous. When he didn’t know what to do, he asked his supervisor.Room:The 6 bed female dorm was small for 6 people. Lockers are narrow and barely fits my slim 28L pack. The bedroom Cheeky Wink has a 2 meter window with no curtains whatsoever. The bunks are stacked by 3 so there’s little clearance space on the bottom two bunks. There’s no individual electrics outlets or lights, which I have come to appreciate from other hostels.Sheets look like they came from the hospital - white, thin, and a flat sheet (not fitted) that you have to do on your own.Showers:They are shut off between 12AM-6AM, which is inconvenient if you have an early day planned.Kitchen:Kitchen is open 8AM-11AM.Common area:Pretty good, open, comfortable, conducive to socializing if that’s your thing.

Bed bug infestationMy partner and me woke up with dozens of (over 50) bed bug bites. They had the distinctive row patterns and left streaks of blood along the bed sheets. We had not had any problems or indications of bedbugs before arriving at hostel connect. We let the staff know of the trouble and wished them luck in dealing with their problem.Unfortunately, when we returned five hours later to collect our bags (which fyi they charge to store past 3pm) we saw them putting clean sheets on the beds in our room. Looking back, we see they have a history of bed bug infestations and by putting customers in our room they clearly are knowingly exposing people to this horrible experience. Bed bug bites are painful and you risk bringing them with you when you leave.
