New Abbey Corn Mill
Beautiful and picturesque historical Corn Mill in the village of New Abbey. Although no longer except on certain days and events it is still a wonderful place to visit. The visit starts with an informative 10 minute introductory video about the history of the Mill, how it came into being and employed the people in the village and also how the corn was milled. Once the video is done there are some informative information boards in the same room about the Mills history and the people that lived there. You are then taken by a tour guide around the Mill of whom are very friendly and they supplement further information about the Mill and its history along with the processes of how the Corn was milled and and the machine used to assist in the process. The tour guide show the waterwheel used to power the Mill with water from the Mill pond and the water wheel looks spectacular and is in great condition. Inside the Mill itself you can see the Kilns used to dry the Corn out prior through the milling process and also the milling stones used to grind the Corn down into oats used for food products such as Bread and Porridge and you can see the other machinery used to assist in the process of milling the Corn. There information boards outside the waterwheel and also inside the Mill itself detailing the different features and how they assisted in milling the Corn and grinding it down. There is a small gift shop inside with gifts from the Mill and also Sweetheart Abbey nearby at affordable prices. Overall this is a superb historic attraction to visit with pleasant helpful friendly staff and a great example of a former Corn Mill in beautiful picturesque surroundings.

New Abbey Corn Mill
This restored, working mill in the beautiful village of New Abbey was at the centre of rural life there and provided work in one way or another for many local people. The tour was brilliant! I wish I had the tour guide's name to say thank you again. I was the only visitor that morning and he took his time chatting about every detail of the mill and also all the tools and implements which are still there. The history of the mill ties in so closely with the abbey and the surrounding area. You will learn a lot about life in New Abbey over the years as well as having a great opportunity to enjoy a very informative tour of the mill.

Fabulous history of the mill. How it began and changed over the years was detailed in a guided tour as well as informative plaques. The mi is open from top to bottom and we had a chance to see all of the workings. A great experience.

Truly fascinating! If you thought you knew how a water-driven cornmill worked- think again!Claire was incredibly knowledgeable and made the whole 'history thing' fascinating (pity my history teacher didn't put history over like that!).Definitely worth a visit.

New Abbey Corn Mill
Very interesting working mill. Barry and George very knowledgeable tour guides. Scenic carpark good enough lawn for a picnic. Top pond currently empty for de-weeding but you can see how deep it would be. Excellent base for exploring the village/ church/ shop/ pub/monks abbey.

New Abbey Corn Mill
A time capsule from 1945 when it ceased to be used. Knowledgeable friendly staff as is the norm.Unfortunately they couldn't run the mill due to some invasive plant life in the mill pond, which will be resolved soon. They do normally run it twice every day except sundays outside of winter.
